Re: Consultant, Bonus
1. The poverty-of-the-employed message might carry more resonance with an audience not facing thousands of dollars of debt from student loans and astronomically high rates of unemployment after graduation. Many of the adjuncts mentioned in the column have exactly the same levels of debt as our stude...

Re: Consultant, Bonus
I encourage you all to stand with the faculty. As the administration outsources instruction, cuts the faculty, increases class sizes and reduces choices for students, we are fighting to maintain the value of a BGSU degree.

Re: Consultant, Bonus
Based on your link, faculty salaries have dropped to 22.9% of total funds available. Almost 80% of what the university spends its money on is not the people who deliver the central things for which the university exists.

Re: Consultant, Bonus
The raises faculty received were not to cover just one year, but included retroactive raises to cover years when the raises were zero. Accounting for inflation and increased contributions to STRS, these are not overly generous raises. Faculty are not even a majority of employees at BGSU. It sounds t...

Deliberately Provocative?
Probably. Doesn't mention that no one actually passes MOOCS. This would probably make the football powerhouse schools happy.

Re: Live football on TV this summer!
Love it, except I hate the Riders. They've always played the "Canada's Team" card and sucked, and now that they're kind of good, their fans are insufferable. Tonight: Calgary at Winnipeg. 8PM. ESPN3. Root for Calgary, because it helps my beloved Hamilton Tiger-Cats (or don't, they're both ...

mcsarn...nothing you have said about the tradeoffs you think the BGSU Faculty Association made during negotiations is accurate. Quite simply, given that you were not involved (I don't remember your being at any of the meetings), you don't know what you are talking about. You should stop making asser...

Live football on TV this summer!
The CFL has signed a deal with ESPN to broadcast quite a few games on ESPN2 this summer (including 7-25 Edmonton at Montreal, so far kind of a dud of a game), every game on ESPN3, and a handful on NBC Sports. In my opinion, it's a great version of gridiron football, competitive, fast (20 second play...

Re: BGSU Fires 73 Faculty;Offers "Boot Camp" to Those Who Re
Of course we can make up the missing sections with bigger classes, fewer classes, or, most likely, both. I just think it's a bad idea: smaller classes increase the likelihood students will make individual contact with professors, which increases the likelihood they will be retained, which helps us w...

Re: BGSU Fires 73 Faculty;Offers "Boot Camp" to Those Who Re
The activism of BGSU's dedicated faculty almost certainly reined in the administration's plans to decimate the faculty further. We're standing up for the quality and value of a BGSU education. You should stand with us.
