BG Baseball shakeup
I don't believe I ever said my son was miserable. Like in every move one makes in baseball, the early years are trying.
I have said what I've said. My thoughts are best said in my initial posting.
As a father, I know that my son just wants to play ball, be treated fairly, and have his teammates treated fairly.
What has happened has happened... we will all live.
over and out!

OK, I realize this forum is mostly viewed & moderated by those who bleed orange & brown, BUT, would it even be possible to consider something might be going on here?? To have 5 seniors leave the team in the last 7 months makes quite a statement. I doubt they were all thinking about their possible "weaknesses being exploited had they played full-time", that pre-empted their decisions. Obviously, there are many sides to this continuing saga. May the truth ultimately prevail.
Knowing Dash, I can agree with that.Jeff_Yost wrote:As a father, I know that my son just wants to play ball, be treated fairly, and have his teammates treated fairly.
It seems a lot of people are blaming the players for not sucking it up and playing despite some yelling from the coach. Maybe generations are getting a little weaker when it comes to constructive criticism...this same situation has forced many players to leave the bball team.
But as a coach, you need to know when not to go overboard because in the end, it will push away players. I wasn't in Florida so I don't want to pretend like I really know what happened, but Dash is all about baseball...he loves to play. I don't care who's fault it is, I don't like to see players leaving our teams.

Let's all think about this for a moment.... Does anyone know how many players that have quit in the last calender year from right now??? Well i will tell you 9 players. To a division 1 program with the amount of players that there are that is pathetic. These players who have all had the potential to play at this level, have had the love of the game sucked completely dry by danny "head coach". These players did not quit because they couldn't compete they quit because they could not take being coached by a man who is "salty" and childlike everyday of his life. As for Mr. Yosts comments....He has a son who works his ass off everyday at pratice and leaves nothing on the field besides his heart. Should working your butt off get you playing time?? Hell i am not the coach, but it should count for something besides being called the cancer of the team. Now for factman or lack of factsi should say....obviously danny doesn't love this place as much as you say. He has only been tryiing to leave for the past 5 years. Man he must really love it here. Factman you just keep standing up against the dugout every game, and pretending that there is no problem and soon we will not have a baseball team 8).

Mr. Yost,
I find your letter totaly unecessary and full of bull! If the son is as rude and untruthful as his father, then I see how this situation has evolved.
First of all, your son was not called 'a cancer' as you have reported. Your son was told that his "pouting and whining" was 'a cancer' to the team. If you or your son cannot understand the difference between the two then I guess you need to talk to Coach Schmitz for a better explanation. If your son has been on the team for 4 years, why did he decide now to quit? What did he hope to gain at this point? If these problems have existed with Coach Schmitz all along as you seem to hint, why are you now complaining?
Danny Schmitz has played 4 years of college baseball at Eastern Michigan where he was recently inducted into their Hall of Fame. He played minor league baseball in the NY Yankees Farm System and even coached in the Minor Leagues for a few years before being hired by BGSU. He has been here coaching the Falcons for over 10 years. I think he knows baseball and baseball talent when he sees it. I think that Coach Brown and Coach Whitmire also know what they are doing. I find it hard to believe that he or his asssistants suddenly have a probelm in knowing how to handle the players or how to treat them fairly. Walking-on as a freshman and staying with it until your senior year doesn't guarantee your son a spot on the team nor does it guarantee him playing time. If your son was good enough to play then I am sure he would have been playing.
You seen to hint that Coach Schmitz owes you and your son some sort of an apology and/or explanation. I think it might be the other way around.

Guys, let's ease off this and just let this thread die. The guy's posted his AIM SN and he's also got an e-mail address.

i don't know if we can ease off the subject because i don't think eddie has a clue what is going on here. nine people do not quit because the coaches know what they are talking about. i will beg to differ you comment about how they know so much....being a decent player 20 years ago does not make you a good coach. I don't care if you play in the minor leagues, or play for a great team. Coaching is much more than wins and losses....it's about getting the kids to play to their full potential and having a mutual respect for one another...sooo eddie i do not think you have any business comming in here and speaking a tongue that you are not familiar with!
First of all, to Mr. Yost and all of you bloggers who speak the truth – Thank you. I only wish it wouldn’t have taken 4 years to get these issues out for all to see.
Let’s keep our eye on the ball – this is not about one sole issue and one sole player. These issues did not start this season with the ultimate resignation of 9 young men, including 5 seniors. These are deep-rooted problems that have been tainting the team every week, every year, of these seniors’ BG careers. Sadly BGSU baseball has lost 5 dedicated seniors, hardworking, ethical players who have given their all for college baseball. The senior year Mecca within their reach, these guys quit not because of playing time, but because of the 4-year abuse that has been shelled out on a regular basis. They reached a breaking point and refused to settle for disrespect. Unfortunately Coach Schmitz never took the opportunity to get to know any of them, and probably doesn’t even realize what he has lost.
Coach Schmitz does one thing very well – recruiting. We are all guilty of falling for his “recruiting charm”. These players gave up offers at other schools in which they could prosper – and for what?! To play ball in a situation where favorites are chosen, where they are not trusted, and where they are demeaned instead of praised.
We all know that college athletes have to put up with hard-core coaching – no one disagrees with that – but the blatant disrespect for players and their families by Coach Schmitz is intolerable. Instead of teaching and working with players on their game, they are benched and ridiculed in front of peers for minor mistakes. No coaching is done – winter spring, summer or fall, only a failed attempt to manage players in a negative capacity. If Coach Schmitz were a business man his company would be bankrupt and he would have massive lawsuits for negligence.
Hopefully these 9 players and 5 seniors have helped bring some of these issues to the forefront. I respect each of them and their difficult decision to end their careers. The have shown maturity, strength and courage. Standing up to Coach Schmitz and BG Baseball has shown more integrity then they ever could have on the field.

This is not the proper forum for any of this.

I really don't think I will listen to someone who at 53 years old plugs his latest CD of "Master Bates and the Meat Beats" while blasting the reputation of an fine individual like Danny Schmitz. I am really surprised that Grant allowed the orginal post to begin this whole mess.
