BG baseball & softball facilities

Post by BGSU33 »

I remember reading/hearing about an on-site locker room facility for baseball and softball at BG. Is that still in the works, or is that something still on a wish list?

I like the improvements that were made at the baseball field a couple years ago. They improved the facility, but man it would have been nice to build a little stadium like they did at places like Ohio, Miami and CMU. Those new little stadiums are awesome! I know, it takes money, money, money, but even with our renovations, we're still a long ways away from having what some other MAC schools have.

As for the BG softball field, I actually think it's pretty nice. I've seen a lot of other softball facilities over the years, and ours is a lot better than most I have seen. But both baseball and softball could benefit from the talked about facility.

YES - that is something still in the works for the Athletic Department.

At the Sebo Center ground breaking, Paul Krebs mentioned a few items for the future: the locker rooms and the Anderson Arena feasibiloity study being two things.

The fundraising (in the 2 million range) has been underway for sometime (last spring), but is taking a back seat until the Sebo Center is financed. It includes a clubhouse for baseball, softball and tennis, and is scheduled to be between the baseball and softball facilities. There is also a possibility that the tennis courts will be moved just to the north of this new facility. There are also long range plans to make the baseball facility a "stadium like" facility, but that comes after the locker room project. Dick Waring, in the Athletic Department, is the person to contact if you want to contribute to this project.

Having a "stadium" would actually benefit the program financially (after taking the initial hit). It would make it much easier to charge admission (I have heard that this may not be something that they want to do, but it will be discussed) and host more events. It may also lure more recruits to BG.

I'd rather see the tennis team actually get some courts that are able to be played on before locker rooms are built.

I heard that construction was set to begin on the lockerroom facility, but when the bulldozers arrived, they found hammb laying on the ground clutching his pitching wedge, so they had to turn around.
