Well since I was critical of the team in the early going though only from a simple analysis of the stats, I'll give the kudos where due now. The team has certainly turned the season around with a string of impressive victories. I didn't have the time nor the inclination to reconstruct the first half stats to the last half, but I know I indicated in a previous post that the team was hitting .214 (50 points below opponets) and errors were extremely high. Currenty the team is hitting .236 (still not fantastic) but the gap has closed with the opponets .262. In addition slugging % is the equal of the opponets and BG holds a slight advanatge in OB %. OK now more specifics. Weimer has pitched a lot more than in the early going and has been great. Gouge has upped her game in hitting and pitching and Freshman Missy Bowman has been red hot with the bat. Vallas and DeLong have remained steady throughout the season. Still a title will be difficult. Weimer must pitch most if not all the games and remain excellent. Hitting will have to be steady and pick up the bottom of the order where 3 regulars are still batting well below .200. However, back in March, I would have said a title was as likely as the Texas Rangers winning the World Series, but now it is possible in the right circumstances.
It's not how you start...
I was also critical early on. The upper classman deserve a lot of credit for an incredible turnaround. It's not how you start but how you finish.
Good luck next week and I hope to see you in the NCAA.
