Rugby Demo

Post by Class of 61 »

I was surprised, given the "anti-football" comments I've been reading, that no one has mentioned the #1 nationally ranked BG rugby team's demo at halftime of the FB game. Admittedly, a short sampling of the game, which more than likely, most of us don't totally understand. But I thought it was enjoyable to watch, along with a commentary explaining what was happening etc.
Didn't realize we'd risen to that rank either, but good to hear.

There are a few pictures in the gallery from Saturday's game that show the Sevens match at halftime. Check em out!

The Ruggers have always been a top notch program in the nation, but the No. 1 ranking is sweet. Don't quote me on this, But I believe coach Mazz's son is the HC now.

More should be done to honor what the Ruby program has accomplished. Can they be made into a collegiate sport or can they only remain club?

Unfortunately, Rugby is not recognized as an NCAA sport. If it does get recognized, then BG Rugby will be a team sport. Until then, it's got to be a club sport. Unfortunate ...

Before you make that a certainty, don't budgets and Title IX have a big say in whether they become a varsity sport or not?

Title IX won't be an issue if the raise both men's and women's rugby to a varsity sport.

On the other hand....budgets may be an issue.
