What are the Falcons going to do for pitching next year? When Salsburg arrived they consistently had the best pitching in the MAC. Her confidence in "her girls" put an end to that.

An earlier post suggesting scholarship reductions may be the problem. Hard argument to make when you trade a non-scholarship pitcher who twice leads her new team to the NCAA tournament for a full scholarship pitcher who never accomplished the same.

But Salsburg has at least been given the opportunity to fail. A similar opportunity would have been nice.

I know nothing about any scholarship reductions and know very little about the situation trump mentioned, but what I do know is this, she won here at the beginning with someone elses players, and hasn't been able to do the same with her own players (sounds like something said a lot in the football forum sans November/December 2008) and to me that means a change should be made.

I don't know enough about the current team & the current staff to have an opinion on whether a change should be made, but I do know this: the cupboard was most certainly not bare five years ago. I know Syracuse gave Coach Ross a lot more money than BG ever could, but BGSU's record has gone downhill over the last five years, and Syracuse has gradually gotten better and better. They won their league tournament last year, and are having another great year this season. Again, I don't follow the team like I once did, but it's sad to see how far we've dropped.

CONGRATS to Coach Leigh Ross for winning her second consecutive Big East softball title over Louisville today.
It would not have taken much to keep her at BG, because she really wanted to stay, but our "fine" AD wanted to play hardball and not even give her a minimal raise to stay, so she left and the results of both teams are very predictable!!!

Just as in the outside world, the administration DESERVES their salaries because they have to make the big decisions and work with those big budgets. ... NOT.

Bubba....welcome to the board. The more people showing disgust for our AD's actions the better. He is running the Athletic Department into the ground. He needs to be fired. People would be amazed to hear the way he runs things.

Staff directory says "Greg Christopher is in his fifth year as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Bowling Green State University. Christopher, the 12th full-time athletic directer in school history, began his duties in July of 2006 has accomplished a great deal in his first four years in Northwest Ohio. "

"Shannon Salsburg completed her fifth season at the helm of the Bowling Green softball program in 2011. ... Salsburg was named the seventh head coach in the history of the program on Sept. 25, 2006, and began her duties two days later."

Dates indicate that GC officially signed her on, but I don't know enough about the coach hiring procedure to know when the softball position was posted and who had to interview the candidates. Was a lot of it done before he got here or was it all done right after he got here?

no......she was GC's hire and he was the one that wouldn't even talk to Coach Ross about staying, and that is what she really wanted to do.

Consider the possibility that it was all part of a conspiracy.
- money had been donated / set aside for ice arena at BGSU but wasn't used at that time
- hockey disappeared at Kent under "Grandma" Cartwright
- a lot of people figured if Kent could lose hockey under her presidency , so could we
- we nearly lost our hockey program
- she challenged the fans to help save the program
- in addition to fan support, other money was "found" for ice arena renovations

Face it: history & tradition doesn't mean squat at BGSU anymore. It's evident all over campus, but very obvious in Athletics.
Where are pictures of past ADs to be seen? Where are the photos of past champions? Why no big banners for our volleyball and both basketball teams in Stroh?

True, we shouldn't rely solely on the past, and we need to keep making new history and new champions (Burke Badenhop playing for the Marlins, Nolan Reimold playing for the Oriels, Lauren Prochaska breaking all sorts of basketball records all come to mind), but the past shouldn't be tossed aside so easily.

I would argue that football is better. The W/L record last year didn't reflect it, but the program was a fu**ing mess off the field. You had kids getting arreested for credit card theft, assault and battery, home invasion and public intoxication. Academic issues cost us 8 scholarships and the attrition rate from our recruiting classes was apalling. Christopher hired the guy that turned that mess around. I think the W/L record will improve quite a bit in the coming years.

I think Louis Orr is a better coach than Dan Dakich....at least coach Orr acts like a grown up and not a petulant little kid. He's also recruited better athletes than Dakich ever did. SO that's two sports..the two sports that 95% of the people here care about.

Unfortunately Flip, they only count wins and losses. Maybe in the future the FB team will be better, but probably not. Our basketball program isn't as good as it should be, although I have no problem with Coach Orr. 95% of the people may only like FB and BBall, but the bottom line is BG shouldn't be finishing last in the MAC all sports standings. Ask people around the department what the problem is, they'll tell you.

They certainly will! Anyone from a maintenance guy to head coaches, including those that have been hired in the past 5 years! Maybe even the new president and Board of Trustees! ;)

What do you base this on...one season? Clawson's getting better talent and they're actually staying in the program. Improvement is almost inevitable...I know you don't like to consider that possibility, but it's there nonetheless.

I'm sure there's some unhappy campers in the department. Find an organization just about anywhere where there isn't....
