BG ranked 25th in the preseason United Coaches Poll.

Does the Mac have an auto bid this year since we only 5 teams?

Yes.

I've heard it said on the internets that we will get a grace period of a year, maybe two. Assume the search continues for a sixth affiliate.

BiG match tomorrow night at Cochrane against aOSU. 7 pm kick. I'll be watching on ESPN+. We lead the series with the Nutz 25-19 with some draws but have not beaten them since 2016. That needs to change. GO BG.

The MAC tournament is happening this week, and it will be the last one.

Today, the MAC announced that they would stop sponsoring men’s soccer at the end of the season. I think that’s a ridiculously sad and embarrassing decision, but I understand that there are only 4 or 5 teams that this impacts anyways.

I wonder where we go from here.

Didn’t have to wait long for an answer - BG is heading to the MVC!

WMU, BG, and Northern Illinois are joining the Missouri Valley Conference for men’s soccer, which will now sit at 10 members.

Our other league mates will be Evansville, Bradley, Belmont, Drake, Missouri State, SIU-Edwardsville, and UIC.

This is disappointing. I really thought the MAC would find a second affiliate and continue onward, but it was not to be.

Of note: Akron appears not to have made a decision, at least that I can see.

As good as the Zips are on a yearly basis, they probably can go independent. Top 20 program every year.

They said they would be sharing their affiliation soon. I’m assuming it will be a bigger conference like Big East or Atlantic 10.

My thought was the Big East since they are at 11 soccer playing schools (entire conference has men's soccer, kind of crazy to see). Atlantic 10 is at 14, not sure they would go to 15. At first I was thinking maybe the Sun Belt, they have a recent national champion, P5 schools, and several former MAC affiliate members but will be gaining a 10th soccer school next season in UCF. Some on the MAC facebook page thought the Big Ten. Not sure how realistic that is. They have 9 soccer playing schools, but UCLA coming in will get them to 10

It's not. It's Akron. They could win the next three national titles and the Big Ten still wouldn't go there.
