2025 Baseball Season
Re: 2025 Baseball Season
2 tournament games in one day potentially on the docket here. A rivalry, and then with a win, the #1 seed in the tournament. Not ideal conditions for a team that's battled injury all year. But they'll fight anyway.

Weather is wreaking havoc on this tournament. BG and Toledo got two innings in and the rain returned. Game won't resume until 5pm

Re: 2025 Baseball Season
This season of great promise ended with a whimper as BG lost to Toledo and EMU in the same day. Both games were high scoring, and BG came up short in both of them.
Hopefully, with some better health and the growth of youngsters who were thrown into bigger roles -- next season will be better. The potential is definitely there to win the MAC and go to the NCAA.

I was pretty disgusted that they forced the guys to play in a monsoon yesterday morning, when everyone could tell they weren't going to get the game in. Completely threw everything off. And then to force BG to play again and push them into a nearly 20 hour day was pretty absurd. But whatever.
Program is only getting better. I'm proud of how far they've come in the past few years.

Re: 2025 Baseball Season
MAC Commissioners should be ashamed to let a sport be decided or even start in these conditions. "Got to get the games in" .....isn't the best resolutions to the problem.
14 runs scored and only 6 hits in two innings, anyone with a head on their shoulders can see what the hell is happening. Neither pitcher were able to throw, mounds a mess, umpires can't stop because the commissioners and ESPN want it played. Somebody was going to lose out on this madness unfortunately it was BG. Though they had chances to tie and win the game in the final three innings. Came back in the tonight cap to tie it. This team fights till the end even if given a bad hand to play with circumstances. At least we are at the tournament, not long ago this was a lofty goal within the program.
Keep growing and getting better.

100% agree. Boneheaded move by the MAC to try and play that game Wed. There is the holiday weekend to get games in. It was miserable.unfalconbelievable wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 10:25 am MAC Commissioners should be ashamed to let a sport be decided or even start in these conditions. We kinda ran outta gas at the end of the season but another 30+ win year. We return all but 6 players next year so we should be right back near the top. They fight like crazy and I love that. After football, the baseball program is my 2nd fave now.

Garrett Wright has transferred to Tennesee...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: 2025 Baseball Season
And DJ Newman is also in the portal.
Nothing we can do when the big schools come calling with huge opportunities for these guys.

Sources site this deal was done in April by a third party. 6 weeks before he was in the portal before a coach or university could talk to him, contract from a third party in hand offering money. BS and this new NCAA SUCKS.

Is this something the new rules aim to prevent? I sure hope so.unfalconbelievable wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:37 pmSources site this deal was done in April by a third party. 6 weeks before he was in the portal before a coach or university could talk to him, contract from a third party in hand offering money. Re: 2025 Baseball Season
Tenn took Paige Gottschall from us a few years ago. She did fantastic for them. They seem to have acquired a taste for BG players. I'll have to follow them to see how our guys do.
We do seem to have a deep team but those two will hurt.

Re: 2025 Baseball Season
DJ Newman was drafted in the 15th round by the Houston Astros as a two-way player. I'm assuming he'll continue on to the University of Tennessee, but it might depend on what Houston offers him as a signing bonus. I think I saw the bonus for that round was up to $150,000 before it comes out of the signing pool, which means that he could be offered a much larger sum if they have it available.
Either way, congrats to Newman on accomplishing something very few ever do.

Re: 2025 Baseball Season
DJ Newman has signed with Houston Astros and will report to their camp instead of the University of Tennessee. Awesome. Now he will forever be a Falcon instead of being tainted with that other orange.
EDIT: Got a signing bonus of $202,500, which was above the $150,000 slot. Astros dug in to their bonus pool just enough to sway him.

Great to hear and good point about forever a Falcon.
