On SR Day, Falcons fall to Flashes 6-3. That is 2 straight 3 game sweeps the Falcons have suffered at home in the last week. BG now 22-23, 9-12 MAC and fading....hopefully they can turn it around with 6 MAC contests left...3 vs Buffalo and 3 vs Ohio...on the road.
At one point, BG was 8-4 MAC, tied with Kent for the East lead.
BG travels to Rochester, MI, to face Oakland Tuesday and then hosts Wright State Wed.

This was not a good weekend for me to see my first baseball games of the year. I went to Saturdays game, and at one point I turned to my dad and said that it really doesn't look like the give a crap. He just sort of nodded with a stunned look in his eyes.
It was really kind of confusing, though. It looked at some points like they did care, but that they may have just been frustrated with how the game was going. I felt bad for the guys, especially the pitchers. It really just seemed like they were tired (their arms, I mean). I haven't seen a game in person before this weekend, though, so I don't know how much these guys have been used or how they were throwing earlier in the seaon. Perhaps Factman might have some more insight here?
Anyhow, I'll be pulling for these guys the rest of the way. I always do!
Go baseball!

As stated above, BG was sitting pretty at 8-4 and looking like a sure thing for the MAC Tournament a few weeks ago. Then, the wheels came off. What’s weird is BG went 8-4 against the MAC West, and then has lost eight of nine games and is only 1-8 against the MAC East so far. To say we have struggled against our division is an understatement, especially considering we were undefeated at home in MAC play only two get swept in our last six consecutive MAC home games. That puts us now at 9-12 and in eighth place in the MAC with only two MAC series remaining, both on the road (at Buffalo, at Ohio). We limped into this weekend and then were passed by Miami, WMU and then Ohio this weekend alone. We’ve got an uphill battle to get into the MAC Tournament now. We pretty much need to sweep Buffalo (and not have an Akron relapse) and win our series against Ohio to get into the MAC Tournament. Those two losses to Akron with two-out walk-off home runs are really looming large right now against us. I know we’ve lost some close games this year, such as a pair of one-run games to Miami, but BG is literally two outs away from being 11-10 because of those two Akron games alone.
I’m going to try and get down to Athens in a couple weeks for a game or two, but I sure hope we can finally snap out of things against Buffalo first. One game at a time.....

I can tell you that the pitchers have certainly NOT been overused. Typically, each starter gets a weekend start and pitches one inning during a midweek game to stay fresh. What many people don't understand is that we are really missing two of our starting rotation in Tyler Sandholtz and Tyler Johnson, who have bot been slow recovering from surgery. TJ is almost back, and I thought pitched the best I have seen him this year against Kent in releif. Tyler Saneholtz's arm still bothers him and he is limited to very short relief stints. When you have two freshmen (Hangbers and Baird) in the three man starting rotation, you have to expect some trials and tribulations. Two other freshmen are normally in the starting lineup and they have shown to be very talented, but have also made some mistakes at critical times, and those are things that will improve and go away with experience. We just need to work our way out of the current "funk" and start hitting. Our top five have to produce for us to have success scoring runs.
I do know that we received two more committments for a total of five, over the weekend for next year, and along with this freshmen class will make a good nucleus for future teams.

Do you have any info on the incoming recruits? Like to see what they are bringing in next season.

The three early signs were Derek Spencer from Clay High School, TJ Blanton from Sandusky St Marys, and a LH hitting OF from Lake Catholic that I do not remember his name. We have two new comittments that all I know is that one is a LH hitting catcher from NW Ohio(not Krauss) and the other is a LH hitting shortstop/pitcher from the Columbus area and another hard hiting middle infielder from NW Ohio.
We only lose two seniors.

Thanks. Kind of off-topic, but what is the story of this kid at Otsego where it shows his stats as hitting 26 of 30 at a .867 clip? Are these like softball stats where Otsego coaches inflated the stats to include hits on errors?

The Falcon men just can't seem to finish off things or keep up the winning ways. Contrasted with this year young softball team who is doing very well, the lady falcon b-ball team who just won back-to-back Mac regular season & Tourney Championships , ladies soccer has done fairly well too from what I can remember.
Whats going on? Is this one of those very odd years where the men's teams just can't seem to get fully going

Falcon football, mens basketball , hockey , soccer and now baseball , it never ends for the men this year. Are the falcon women on on something? I surely dont' mind the Falcon ladies teams doing well , quite the contrary , just wish the men could get in on this doing well party.
