Football, baseball and wrestling...don't see that combo a whole lot! And a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.71 GPA. Impressive recruit.
Factman,
Seems like Coach Schmitz is landing high quality recruits this year. How many have signed and what do we have left to offer? Thanks.
GO BG!~

I believe we have a total of six currently signed, and might sign another one or two yet for this fall.
We REALLY need to get the locker room and facility upgrade underway, and the AD search has put it on hold again, until the new AD is in place. This project was started way back before Krebs came on board, and ended up being on hold for 4-5 years, until he put his approval stamp on it and now we are in the same situation AGAIN!!!!!

There are some people that are heavily involved in this project with both time and $$$$, that are about to tell the university to forget any help, if they can't get their act together, and there has been some significant money pledged for the project, plus the fact that it is DESPARATELY needed.
Ribeau, Whipple et al, need to get off thier duffs and get this project DONE!!!

Thanks for the info.
And it sounds like the locker room and facility upgrade is needed PRONTO> I sincerely hope the new AD can come in and recognize in needs done now.
It is needed, no doubt.

Has anyone ever floated the idea of making the dugouts longer as part of this project? It really is kind of sad to see so many people stuffed into those little damned things during a game, especially when a team is on offense. I can't believe it would be that expensive to extend them down the baselines a bit...

Yes, rebuilding the dugouts would be part of Phase II with the facade for the seating etc, and other "field" improvements, in the current plans.

Who has BG signed so far for baseball? I have seen these names, nothing else.
T.J. Blanton, 6'2" 185, OF, Sandusky St. Marys Central Catholic
Logan Meisler, 5'10" 170, SS/3B, Port Clinton

T.J. Blanton got ranked as the #25 overall prospect (college/HS) in Ohio for the upcoming MLB draft. Ohio as a state has an extremely deep group of prospects.
Kent St has a few very high recruits that may go pro (Chad Rodgers, lhp, Walsh Jesuit HS and Kyle Smith, rhp, Louisville HS) as they are projected to go in the top 5 rounds.
Toledo has outfielder Aaron Opelt (Fremont Ross) ranked #9 in the state, that is projected to maybe fall through the draft because of his commitment to play football as well as baseball at UT.

BG offered Opelt in baseball, but not football, so he signed with UT. I still think he made a big mistake in concentrating on football, but only time will tell. Iis is VERY hard to play both football and baseball at the D-1 level, but especially hard when you are a QB.

Indeed. Look at Bob Niemet from a few years ago. He was a good QB but an even better baseball player. Had he concentrated on one or the other, IMO, he would have been real impressive.
Factman,
Did Niemet ever play pro baseball?

Yes, he signed with SanFrancisco, I believe, and had a short pro career.
one of the "great" all-time COMPETITORS in Falcon history , in my opinion.
Lot's of good stories!

I agree...Niemet played HARD all the time in both sports. Thanks for the info.
