Baseball Committment...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

From today's Akron Beacon Journal:

Walsh baseball star to play at BGSU

Walsh Jesuit senior Chris Gacom made an oral commitment to play baseball at Bowling Green.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Gacom was 5-1, with a 0.95 ERA and 34 strikeouts against only nine walks in helping lead the Warriors to the Division II state championship last spring. He pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout in the final.

Gacom also excelled at the plate last season, posting a batting average of .394 with a home run and 18 RBI.

Good deal!! GO BG!~

That is freaking small for a college level pitcher. He is going to need to put on some weight once he gets here!

I think if you look into the situation he is a combination pitcher/middle infielder. Ever hear of Billy Wagner? He's 5'11"!!!!!!Throws 100 mph!!!

I met Billy Wagner a few times. Sometimes he trains here at Virginia (he didn't go to UVa) with a friend of mine in the off-season.

Pitching and weight have little comparison. Its all about technique and how you use the rubber. Look at Pedro. He proves that the length of your fingers is more important than the size of his belt.

Mike Hampton from the Braves is a small guy. It has been done. People don't have to be 6'3 to be an athlete in college.

The Buckeye Scout Top 100

Post by factman »

I just received my annual copy of The Buckeye Scout today, and it has it's annual ranking of Ohio's Top 100 baseball players for the Class of 2005.
BG early signees are as follows:

#7 Marty Baird RHP/SS
#15 Kevin Leady OG/RHP
#31 Sam Campitella RHP/3B
#47 Chris Gacom SS/RHP

That is a great class, just from Ohio, and you add Ryan Shay,SS, who is a preseason 2nd team Louisville Slugger All-American from Michigan, and it "could" be one of the best ever. I also think they will sign another couple players in the spring/summer signing period.
Just FYI, Toledo signed one (1) player, #53, in the Top 100. Kent and Miami also had good classes.

Factman,
Thanks for that info! Can always count on you to keep the rest of us up to date on the diamond. 4 top 50 players? Not too shabby at all!
And the season opens in 3 weeks...you jonesin' yet?
