in the Orioles organization by Baseball America.

I know there is a Reimold thread, but this honour deserves its own thread.

Reimold was ranked #3 prospect in the organization.

Reimold was also named: Best Power Hitter & Best Athlete

He is projected to be the starting LF for Baltimore in 2010.

And you gotta like this quote:
The only players who look like good bets to be big league run producers in the farm system--Rowell and Nolan Reimold--won't be ready to contribute in the big leagues until at least 2008.

Ua know, I read that a few times and it finally sank in to how talented Reimold really is and how well he's doing. It's awesome to see him making BiG time waves in the Baltimore organization.

BTW, is this the AA level? Last time I recall, he was AA in Bowie? The Akron Aeros are AA and I'll be heading down to Canal Park when he's in town. Keep it up, Nolan!

I don't think Bowie is in the same league with the Aeros, but I could be wrong.

This is great news about Nolan. I'm happy to hear that he is having success and wish him nothing but more!

BO,

Are they the "Baysox"? If so, I think they may be in the Eastern Leauge. Hard for me to keep all these minor leagues straight. LOL.

Please pass the crow. Oh, and do we have any salt to go with that?

I wouldn't be surprised if he's in AAA by the end of the year. I saw him in BG and again in '05 just after he got called up to Fredrick. Nice to see a BG kid doing well.

Oh, Bowie and Akron are even in the same division!

Nolan hasn't made it to Bowie quite yet. He'll start there next season. He just finished his baseball season on Sat., in the Arizona Fall League. I assume they'll give him the winter off.

If you read what Baseball America says about Nolan, nobody can quite give an evaluation of how well Nolan will be a pro and even where he might play.

It's quite interesting. Supposedly some scouts think he will be a regular major league RFer with good power (25 to 35 HRs), ability to take walks, and play an above average RF (defensively).

Then there are scouts that are not very high on him at all. They think that he won't be able to hit well enough (average) and may not be able to stick in the OF and may have to move to 1B.

I do know one thing. He may not stick in RF, as long as he is with Baltimore. Nick Markasis is their everyday RF for many years. Nolan could easily move to LF. That's not the problem. The only issue is whether he can consistently make enough contact and learn to use the whole field as a hitter. He's been known to be a 'pull hitter' and could benefit (batting average) by hitting to all fields.

Going to the AFL is going to help. Baseball America will come out with their top prospects soon and we'll see if Nolan has gained a little more respect with the scouts.

I've seen Nolan's name mentioned in a possible trade with the Braves for Tim Hudson. The Orioles would likely have to trade a couple of minor leaguers to get Hudson, but nonetheless Nolan's name has come up as one of the minor league bargaining chips that might be necessary to get this trade done. So who knows, Nolan could be playing for the Mississippi Braves next season.

psssst that's what this thread is about... the most recent (this month) BA rankings put Nolan as the #3 prospect in the Balmore organization.

AFL Top 20 Prospects

17. Nolan Reimold, of, Grand Canyon (Orioles)

Easily the most polarizing prospect on this list, Reimold battled minor back issues throughout the year at high Class A Frederick, where he batted just .255/.379/.455 and struck out 107 times in 415 at-bats. Reimold's best two tools are his power and his arm strength, profiling as an everyday right fielder. He runs OK now, but scouts think he'll only be an average runner at best at the major league level. Reimold has 70 power on the 20-80 scouting scale, with above-average bat speed and a line-drive stroke that creates a lot of natural loft in his swing. But Reimold likely won't ever hit for a high average, and has too many holes--especially when dealing with a steady diet of quality breaking balls. If he tightens up his strike zone, his ceiling could be Jay Buhner.

Go Nolan!!

I don't think anyone's projecting him to be a superstar, but he could have a long career just by being 'solid'. And there's nothing wrong with that :-)

right, I wasn't talking about the Baltimore prospect list. I was thinking about the Arizona Fall League. The time when BA does their prospect list (team by team), they get scouts view on his play during the regular season. Obviously, a lot of scouts go to the AFL and view these players again. Therefore, I wanted to see if their view had changed any. Nolan did seem to cut down on the strike outs some, though it was a small sample size

#17 is pretty good, considering there are a lot of good prospect in Arizona this fall.

Orioles farm system steadily improving

The volume of impact players the Orioles have produced via the draft since 2000 have been few and far between. Sure, Nick Markakis made his much-heralded debut last season and Chris Ray emerged as a bona fide closer. But for much of the early part of the decade, Baltimore's draft was a virtual wasteland.

That trend has clearly begun to reverse itself, though. The 2005 draft produced Garrett Olson, Nolan Reimold and Brandon Erbe, all of whom are expected to play an integral role at the Major League level within the next year or two. Last season's draft also gave Baltimore fans something to look forward to in the form of Billy Rowell, Pedro Beato and Ryan Adams.

So while there still may be some struggles ahead for the O's, the influx of young talent should keep those trials and tribulations to a minimum. Help is on the way and it won't be long before Camden Yards is once again the home of some exciting young players.

Double-A Bowie

Nolan Reimold, OF
Reimold began the season by hitting .304 with nine homers and 36 RBIs through the first week of June at Frederick before the injury bug bit. Back woes and foot problems slowed him from then on and he hit .227 with 10 homers and 39 RBIs the rest of the season. He did make an appearance in the Futures Game and went on to hit .284 with nine RBIs in 25 games for Grand Canyon in the Arizona Fall League.

"He was really going good last year, but he got hurt a couple of times," Jordan said. "So he wound up having a good year, not a great year. But he's got the big upside. He hurt his back lifting weights and trying to do too much in the weight room. And the foot problem he had hasn't recurred and never happened before, so we don't feel as if we'll have any [injury] problems with this guy."
