Kelly Hunt released by Detroit...

Post by Flipper »

Kelly had good power numbers in tough hitters parks in low and high A ball, but he struggled with a high K/BB ratio at every level and he just didn't seem to be on track to change that. With Jeff Larish ready to play AA this year, Kelly became expendable.

If he can get a better idea of the strike zone and presumably a tad more patience atthe plate, he could make some $$$ playing ball...he does have major league power,
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I must have missed this earlier in the week. That is disappointing but somewhat expected that Kelly was released from Erie. You mentioned the K/BB ratio, which I assumed was bad, but not 123 K / 9 BB. OUCH!

Not trying to be funny but does he wear glasses? This may help him see ball rotation and location.

Gagne wore glasses in LA, and K-Rod does as well.

Also, let's not forget Rick Vaughn.

The independent Frontier League http://www.frontierleague.com/ is holding tryouts this week. It's a professional league in the Midwest and a great place to get some playing time at a high level. He may want to investigate catching on with one of their teams. It's not 'A' ball, but it is professional and they do put a lot of guys into affiliated baseball.
