Baseball drops series opener at Kent State...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Flashes break a 4-4 tie with 4 runs in the 8th and go on to win 8-4. BG falls to 17-26, 4-15 MAC. :x BG is now only 4-12 in the last 16 games.

BG will face Kent State again Sat at 1. I plan on taking Jake to Sunday's game at 1. Too much to do around the house tomorrow like mowing and mulching the beds to make the game.

Hopefully BG can even the series and set up a rubber match for Sunday.

And loses 3-2 today late in the game...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

This is getting extremely frustrating. BG had a 2-0 lead until Kent took a 3-2 lead in the 6th. BG failed to capitalize on a pair of scoring opportunities in the seventh and eighth innings. After stranding two runners in the seventh, a pop fly in the eighth wasted a bases loaded situation in the eighth inning. :(

The series finale is tomorrow at Kent and the Freaklings and I will be there. Hopefully BG can get the last game.

Falcons are now 17-27, 4-16 MAC. :x

It's been a VERY long season again, especially in the MAC. Even if we someway, somehow won the rest of our MAC games (very wishful thinking on my part), we'd still finish well below .500 as we are already 12 games under in the MAC with only seven left to play and we stand at 4-16 as of May 5th. I can only hope we can salvage the series vs. Kent State and win our last two MAC series against Buffalo and Ohio - which are both winable series and both are at home - and build on thing for next year.
GO BG!!!

If some of you don't realize it, it is time to step up to the plate and UPGRADE our baeball facility. They have made some improvements in the past few years, but many have been done the cheapest way possible, and not the RIGHT way. A perfect example is the "batter's eye" that looks like an erector set with a grey bedsheet hung on it. The baseball team has NO lockerroom, and the stadium and dugouts need a serious upgrade to even be in the same league with Miami, Kent, OU, Central Michigan, Wright State, Dayton, Cincinnati and many others that have built very nice new facilities in the past few years, and are drawing many of the top recruits from areas we were very strong in just a few years ago.
Football has had over $10 million spent on them in the past couple years, and baseball gets their "old" sod!!! If we want to win on a consistent basis, it is time to UPGRADE the facilities!!!!!

I have to agree with FM. Kent built a very nice lockerroom facility recently and installed NextTurf on the field. Now I'm not crazy about fake surfaces for baseball but Schoonover Stadium used to be a complete dump. It looks pretty damn good now. I commented to Mrs Freak yesterday how the BG baseball team has no lockerroom at their field and even she looked at me in disbelief. Baseball's facilities definitely need drastic improvement.

BTW, we lost yesterday 8-3. With BG leading 1-0 in the 5th, Kent tagged us for 6 runs. I talked to one of the coaches after the game and he said BG played 2 bad innings all weekend and it cost them. Coach Schmitz had to sit on the bus the whole weekend due to the suspension at Miami...which seemed to be very unfair.

Come on -- do you really think upgraded facilities means more wins?????? Have you ever been to Ball State? Granted, they are down this year, but did make it to the NCAA tournament last year. Perhaps it's time to address the obvious. :?

Well, it appears as though the system is failing & has been for quite a few years. Perhaps it is time for a change in leadership.

It would appear the issue with the team is consistency which is usually routed in a young team.

A young team?? It is the same as last year, except for one pitcher. Any other excuses?

You're welcome, LB! I find myself spending less time here anymore because there is way too much negativity. Yes, it was a down year for all the men's teams this year...but dang.

I'm here only 2 hours a day instead of 4.

BGSUBOY,

I think Factman has forgotten more BG baseball than you'll ever know. He is the BIGGEST BG baseball fan I've ever seen. A little respect would be nice....
