Well, the good new is we at least won the three-game series vs. Ohio two games to one. And I guess some could argue that more good news is our baseball season is finally over. But we just got blasted today 15-0 on our home field to finish dead-last in the 12-team MAC at 7-20. Our 7-20 finish in the MAC was our worst conference finish in 15 years (since 1992) and I believe our 15-0 loss was our biggest defeat in eight years (since falling 16-1 to Kent State back in 1999). What a brutal, brutal year for some of our men’s teams (football, basketball, hockey, soccer and baseball).

You missed out on the other two men's teams - cross country and golf. Those teams finished 8th and 6th in the MAC, respectively. It's really strange to look back at the results of the '06-'07 athletics year and see that every men's team at BG finished in the bottom half of the MAC or CCHA, while a fair number of the women's teams were at or near the top of the MAC (basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball). Hopefully the women's teams can have continued success and the men's teams can catch up.

Someone please find out what our BG women's teams are drinking and feed it to the men pronto. Law of averages would suggest our men's teams can't stay this bad for much longer............I hope.

Ugh. Well, I can say I'm glad this school year is done on the men's side.

Looking forward to better things in 2007-8.

The MAC gives two trophies annually for overall success in men's and women's sports. The 12 schools earn points based on where their teams finish in the conference standings, which are then divided by the number of sports that school sponsors (as a side note, hockey is not included in the mix because it is not a MAC sport). Both awards are named for former Mid-American Conference commissioners.

The Reese Trophy is given to the best men's athletic program, and the Jacoby Trophy is given to the best women's athletic program.

On the men's side, BGSU finished last for the second consecutive year. Over the last five years, our average finish in the Reese Trophy standings has been 11th. Central Michigan won this year's Reese Trophy, followed by Kent State, Eastern Michigan and Akron.

Collectively, our women had a terrific year, finishing second in the Jacoby Trophy standings. It was the highest finish in recent years for BGSU, as our five-year average for the Jacoby Trophy is seventh. Ohio won the Jacoby Trophy, BGSU was second, followed by Kent State and Miami.

Winning the Reese and Jacoby Trophies is an important priority for BGSU Athletics. Bowling Green last won the Reese Trophy in 1995 and the Jacoby Trophy in 1994. Returning BGSU to a broad-based level of excellence is essential as we strive to be the best in all respects.

Well, of course. That makes no sense, with out of state tuition being so high & the lack of baseball scholarship dollars as compared to football / baseketball. I imagine it's a challenge to recruit the top talent in Ohio, with the competition from the other MAC schools & OSU. It's probably even more difficult to recruit to a losing program, thus a vicious cycle. What comes first, the chicken or the egg?? Definitely a few difficult rebuilding years ahead for the Falcons.

This is too much, even from someone with a longstanding agenda to run the guy out of town. If anything, the rebuilding is coming to an end as the roster is beginning to mature and gain experience.

Danny Schmitz, counting this year, has had 9 winning seasons in the past 13 years. As far as recruiting, the possibility of coming in and having the opportunity to make contributions early on is an attractive option for many players.
