Very rough weekend for the softball team as they lost all 5 games played....3 of them by 1 run.
The team heads to Auburn, AL to take part in the War Eagle Classic hosted by Auburn. BG will play a rematch game with Lipscomb (who beat BG 10-9 in the season opener) Auburn, TN Tech and GA Southern.
Hopefully they can get some wins and get rolling...

Not hard to figure out why they are 0-5 despite some one run losses just by looking at the stats for the weekend. Poor defense with 14 errors committed to opponets 4. Pitching allowing 56 baserunners in 31.3 innings and add some more for at least a few of those errors. High ERA and WHIP. Hitting basically so-so and greatly reliant on Weimer, Vallas and DeLong for most of the punch. Still early but a lot to work on.

The last two years the ladies lost of A LOT of their previous talent. The team has 8 freshmen and the other 8 are split among the rest of the years. They have a solid freshmen class though and I'm sure we'll see a difference once they get some more games in!

Ouch guys.....remember this? I don't think 0-5 was expected at all.
The Falcons return eight letter winners, including four All-MAC selections from the 2007 BGSU softball team, which posted a 33-12 record last season, the highest winning percentage in BG softball history. Captains Dawnjene DeLong, Allison Vallas, and Hayley Wiemer along with veterans Emily Gouge, Brittnay Hay, Jessica Barisono, Carly Riepenhoff, and Susan Sontag will lead the Falcons this season. Vallas and Wiemer were both named first team All-MAC and to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team. Wiemer also was also named to the NFCA Louisville Slugger Great Lakes All-Region Team. DeLong and Gouge picked up second team All-MAC honors last season as well.

In addition to the eight freshmen, they have two new assistant coaches (pitching and outfield) who are learning how to do their jobs as well. It may take some more schoolin' before they put it all together.
