BG is still hanging in there in the MAC race, and with three weekend series remaining, putting together a run could solidify a spot in the tournament. Here's where things stand after six series:

MAC EAST
Kent State, 9-6
Ohio, 9-9
BOWLING GREEN, 7-8
Akron, 5-7
Buffalo, 6-11
Miami, 6-12

MAC WEST
Eastern Michigan, 11-4
Northern Illinois, 11-7
Ball State, 9-6
Central Michigan, 9-8
Toledo, 7-8
Western Michigan, 6-9

Next weekend's MAC series:
BOWLING GREEN at Ohio
Akron at Miami
Buffalo at Kent State
Toledo at Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan at Ball State
Central Michigan at Northern Illinois

It sucks that the guys started off the season so strong and were looking really good but I think it has been quite a bit downhill since early on. I hope the men can rebound and win the rest of their series!

Yeah, the MAC East hasn't been too kind to BG thus far. BG went 6-3 vs. the MAC West (didn't play a game in the series vs. WMU) including winning its first four games of conference play to start 4-0, but has opened 1-5 against the MAC East. Winning at Ohio next weekend is going to be difficult, but I like the fact we have Buffalo (at home) and Akron (on the road) remaining. Right now, BG is fighting for the #7 & #8 seeds with UT & WMU. But there's three more MAC series left and a lot can happen. If we can win two of the last three series, we should be okay. But if we keep losing games like we have the past couple weekends, we could be sitting home again.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the top four in each division make the tournament this year. If that's the case, we only need to worry about staying ahead of 2 teams in the East. Of course, if we can win a couple games in each of the next few weekends, it'll all take care of itself.

Interesting. I know the field expanded to eight teams and will be moving to a neutral site, but I'm not sure how they are filling the eight spots. I assumed the top eight teams would go, but yeah, it could certainly be that format. If it's the top four in each division, then that could actually work more to BG's advantage to make the tournament field. Either way, we need to start winning again.

Not sure how it will work. This was on the MAC website, but no other info.

"The new format will feature a bracket of two pools, with the winner of each double-elimination pool meeting in a one-game, winner take all championship game. The bracketing reflects the College World Series format as played in Omaha. The championship will run from May 21-24. There will also be a Mid-American Conference Tournament Celebration open to all players, staff, parents and fans to be held Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30 PM."

In the 6 team format, the top 2 from each division went & then the next 2 with the highest MAC winning percentage. Guess they could go 4 & 4, or 3 & 3 with the next 2 winningest percentages. Guess we'll have to stay tuned........ Perhaps Factman knows more?????

Per the article in the ST: The top three teams in each division and the next two teams with the best records, regardless of division, qualify for the MAC Tournament.
