The home opener sticks out to me:
03/17/09 vs. Michigan State Bowling Green, Ohio 3:00 p.m. ET
Sure, MSU is among the bottom of the Big Ten but its the name that sticks out.
Since i'm new on campus, ill ask: How is our team looking this year? Who are the contenders in the MAC?

Let's hope the athletic department gets their act together and gets the field fixed up before the home opener. The "batters eye" has been damaged for over a year now and nothing has been done, and there are many other improvements that need to be made on the baseball facility.

Last time I was out there for work, it was not fixed yet.
Maybe they'll have us fix it up before the opener.

I'd say we'll be projected among the top teams this year, having won a share of it last season. Then again, we were projected to finish dead last in 2008, and surprised everyone down the stretch.
As far as MSU goes, I highly doubt that game will actually be played. The schedule each year in NW Ohio is riddled with so many rainouts and unmade up games it's kind of ridiculous trying to be a fan of the baseball team. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt you'll ever see the Spartans actually take the field here in 2009.
My guess is that you might see some of that Western Mich. home series played, and maybe the Findlay one, which is always interesting because the Oilers get very charged up to play their I75 big brothers.

They rarely get in a game before Spring Break. The perils of playing in the upper midwest!

I noticed that batters eye the other day when I was driving by, it certainly doesn't look real good. My guess is they are probably waiting for the weather to break so they can fix it or replace it. I heard that they were going to do some other things out there as well, but if they did, I can't tell what.
Oh well, the team won't be outside using the field anytime soon anyway. Northwest Ohio is wonderful in the winter.

Bullpens have been completely re-done. All of the baselines and infield dirt were dug up and replaced. The baselines (dirt and all) have been adjusted to the correct width. There are plenty more things lined up to be done, it's just a matter of when the weather will allow.

Congratulations to Ryan Shay for being sellected as the 7th best SS in the country by Ping. Not many players from up north made it. Ohio State had none!
