I rarely read the BG News, but was looking through it while listening to the men's basketball game. I about flipped when I scrolled down and saw her picture on the front page!!!

Jane Herrmann was a VERY good friend of mine. She was a bridesmaid in our wedding. My dual major at BG was deaf/hard of hearing education and elementary education. Even though Jane went to an "oral" deaf school (where sign was forbidden!), she took the sign language class at BG (before I did). It came quite naturally to her and she would tutor me when I took the class. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was such a fun person to be around!! I remember her stopping in to visit us after she got back to school in the fall of '81. She told us about her trip to the World Games for the Deaf. She didn't do well in the competition because she had gotten sick prior to competition. She competed, but didn't do well. She also said that one of her biggest disappointments was the fact most of the German beer steins that she brought back (one of which was for us) were shattered on the trip home. I think only one got home in tact, the one for her parents! I got see it when we went down to Portsmouth for her funeral and stayed at her parents house. That was a wonderful article and it brought back a TON of good memories (and one bad one, the accident). Just thought I'd share the article with you. She was a fantastic person and it's neat to see her inspiration has gone on long after she was here.
