BG in the Atlanta Regional in SEB's latest Projection!!!

Post by BGSU33 »

Obviously, BG needs to win the MAC Tournament to have any shot at all at making an NCAA Regional this year, but in SEBaseball.com's weekly Regional Projection, they have BG as a #4 seed in the Atlanta Regional (host team Georgia Tech). Georgia Tech is listed as the #1 seed, Vanderbilt the #2 seed and Georgia Southern the #3 seed.

Kent State has been the MAC pick almost the entire season on here (as the conference's automatic bid) but it's nice to just even see BG listed in a Regional projection for once. I'm sure the site likely pastes the conference leader of the MAC and other smaller conferences in there every week, but I don't care, it's still fun to see us mentioned. This is obviously just a projection, but one thing this site is usually good at from year to year is projecting the actual Regional sites over the actual seeded teams in it.

"IF" BG were to win the MAC Tournament and make an NCAA Regional, playing close to Ohio is very likely out of the question. Right now Minnesota has a chance to serve host as a Northern/Midwest host team and that isn't close to Northwest Ohio at all. Ohio State was in the running for awhile as a possible host Regional site by has fallen back. The next closest potential Regional area to pop up could be Virginia. Otherwise, we could end up just about anywhere if we were to make it. It also depends on what other automatic qualifiers make the field.

In BG's last two NCAA appearances, the Falcons played in Miami, Florida (Miami, Fla. host) and Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State host).

Here's the projection if you're interested in seeing the field:
