Mea Culpa

I know I've posted this here in that past so I will post my retraction here- Mostly to annoy Freak

I put in some digs about UT's 21 year dominance in swimming. This was based on an article I read last year in, I believe, The Blade (that's what I get). On UT's site today they gave a rundown of the current streak which has existed since 19
ninety9, not 89. I believe, based on the more thoroughly documented story on the UT site that this is the correct year for the start of the streak. The series renews today at UT.

No problem.
We just chalked it up to the fact that subtraction is a PhD level course at UT.

Well, I'm smart enough to know that from 1999-2010, is still a 17 year long streak so not too shabby.

Not happening. Toledo took football, volleyball, soccer, football, men's x-country, football, women's cross country, football, women's basketball and football. You won men's basketball- that's enough. Don't get greedy.

I see you're finally getting it that Football is much more important than the third-world sports your life seems to revolve around.

The Falcons now take all of this momentum and swim again in less than 48 hours. The team will travel to face That Team Up North (Toledo) on Friday evening (Jan. 28) at 5:00 p.m. in UT's Student Recreation Center.
Toledo will enter the meet 3-3 in dual meets. The Rockets and Falcons have one common opponent -- Ohio. Toledo defeated the Bobcats at home one week before Ohio won in Athens against the Falcons.
However, Toledo also competed in December's Eastern Michigan Invitational. At that meet, the Falcons placed fourth, three spots ahead of the seventh-place Rockets.

Not at all, RWT. I just know Freak is on record as saying he favors it so I thought I'd rub that in-all in fun as always, Freak. Its easy to pick and choose which sports you want to be a fan of. You can always back off and say "hey, I'm just a fan of this sport or that sport". Then when they start to lose you can decide they're not important either. I'm a Rocket sports fan- all of them.
Hilarious "third world" comment though. Track, cross country, volleyball, etc have traditionally been dominated by the U.S, Britain and a handful of other "first world" nations. REcently Jamaica, and some African countries have made inroads in some areas of track while soccer has seen some poor countries develop outstanding teams. Its especially amusing that you follow these posts so closely- closet women's cross country fan, Tom?

Not sure of the score-I heard 190-80 but that seems unlikely. Anyway UT extended the streak per an attendant at the meet, but we lose a lot this year and have to swim AT BG next year so it will be tough to continue it. Swimming is particularly close to my heart among the "third world" sports because my wife swam for UT-

Third World refers to sports that make no money and few care about. It has nothing to do with actual countries and the sports they play, D'oh!!

H2O, that's how I am with BG...I follow all the teams BiG time but especially football. OSU fans are famous for their love of football but don't give a rat's azz about any other sports down there. Hell, their hoops team in #1 in the nation and their arena was 25-30% empty the other night on TV.
All in fun....you got it. That's what makes this the best rivalry.
Congrats on taking yet another sport this year. I was really hoping the BG swim team would do better based on this year but is seems we have a long way to go to catch ut there. My sister is the Dover High School and YMCA swim coach and we were always on swim teams when we were kids. Swimming is one of the most physically demanding sports anywhere.
Oh and ut still sucks.

Freak,
We have a really good swim team. Our biggest problem is that we have no dive team. So we concede the top 3 spots in two events to our opponents. That's a lot of points to have to make up (although this was not the reason for the loss to the school up north).
