Fired track coaches?

Post by h2oville rocket »

Did BG just fire their track coaches? My PT who works with the team said they did a few weeks ago. Anybody know?

waterboy........just remember what a "good" AD he is, when he expects them to do wonders with no budget or few scholarships in comparison to teams they compete against. We will have NO competitive teams if this guy isn't gone soon! He is basically cleaning house in the department either by firing them or running them off, and has no idea what he is doing in hiring new coaches, especially non revenue types. His only criteria is that he can get them cheap, just like he is! Here is hoping the new president has a clue, and does something about him.

Simply another example of what a good AD he is. Probably the best in the MAC, after MOB. He recognizes a deficiency and takes steps to correct it. Apparently he offered the throwing coach the opportunity to apply for the head job or at least A job. Not sure if that's accurate but I think it is. He'd be wise (and he clearly is) to keep that coach as BG's bigs are their best athletes aside from the track half of the Pettigrews. Another coup for Christopher!

If I were a Rocket fan, I would really like Christopher too! He's doing a great job of making you guys the best athletic department in Northwest Ohio. How is he still employed?

Of course it was time to "move in a new direction". Really, why would we want a track coach, who, according to the article, would do any of the following?

"Academically, Paulson’s women’s cross country team has been awarded the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic designation ten consecutive years. Last year’s men’s cross country team earned the distinction for the first time since 2001-02 and the track and field team was honored for the third consecutive year. Paulson’s athletes have earned Academic All-MAC status 27 times, Academic All-District IV distinction six times, and Academic All-American twice."

You can read more about it here:
http://toledoblade.typepad.com/falconfo ... newed.html

"Paulson has served as women’s cross country coach since 1999, added the men’s cross country team in 2002, and took over the women’s track program in 2006. She helped 16 athletes earn All-MAC honors – seven in cross country, nine in track – and had one NCAA provisional qualifier along with nine school record holders.

"The women’s cross country team finished second in the MAC under Paulson in 2006 and fifth in 2008; in the other 10 seasons it placed no higher than seventh, including an eighth-place finish in 2010. The men’s cross country finished last or next-to-last in the league all nine seasons under Paulson, including a ninth-place effort (of nine teams) this year.

"The track team has never placed higher than sixth in the MAC indoor meet and was eighth this past February. In the outdoor meet the Falcons have never placed higher than seventh and were last in the MAC (of 12 teams) in 2010."

I guess they spent all her money on new facilities instead of recruiting or scholarships.

Remember: 18 sports - 1 team (that matters: football).
