BG baseball bounced from MAC Tourney in less than 20 hours

The Falcons lost to NIU today 4-2 to end BG's season. The Falcons had two runners on with no outs in the bottom of the 9th but another double play (like last night) killed the rally attempt. Our offense really went to sleep in the tournament again as we only scored a combined four runs in two games. I'm glad we made the tournament, but I was hoping this team could gave at least win a game or two while down there. I liked our chances in this one, unlike the opener. Hopefully we'll get back to our winning ways next season and have better luck next year. I'll be pulling for Kent State to win it now as I think they are the best team in the MAC and I'd like to see them represent the MAC in a Regional.

Unfortunately, yes they have. Last year we mad a run in it though. But we gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth which cost us a spot in the MAC Championship game. :x

Not the season we were hoping for...and certainly disappointing to be out of the tourney so quickly.

Look forward to next season...GO BASEBALL.

Don't get your hopes up to high for next year as baseball as well as "selected" other teams will be severely handicaped with scholarship and budget cuts, leaving them behind other MAC teams and operating on a VERY uneven field.

Cue the Good Will Hunting scene, where the Robin Williams character repeatedly says "It's not your fault; it's Greg Christopher's."

I watched the kent game online...the team had chances, just couldn't get the big hit. Anyone who thinks GC is doing a good or even adequate job, is wrong. Wait til the final Reese and Jacoby Cup standings come out.....I bet we'll be dead last in both.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying GC is doing a great job. But, it is my feeling that he's been told by those above him to cut the budget as much as possible, and to concentrate on the potential revenue sports. I don't think any of BGSU's sports are going to be major revenue producers, or even finish in the black at all. But, there's absolutely no chance that sports like baseball will bring in any money for the University, ever. No chance. If you've got 18 sports, and you don't have the money to sufficiently fund all of them, you've either got to cut a few sports, or you've got to decide where to allocate the money & resources you do have. Again, I'm not saying GC is a great AD by any stretch - I don't know enough about the job to judge him. But, I DO get tired of people who are too close to the baseball coach (hypothetically) blaming EVERYTHING on GC.

Kent shut out EMU and Miami 8-0 and 11-0 to win the tournament. They are pretty good, I wonder if they can make a run in regionals?

Winning a Regional if you aren't one of the top seeds is tough, but you never know, it's why they play the games. There are 16 Regionals with four teams in each one, the teams are seeded 1-4 and it's double elimination. In most cases, the host team is the #1 seed (not always, but usually). The big thing for Kent State this year would be it has a shot at a #3 seed IMO and that would get them out of having to face a #1 seeded host team in the opening game if they were seeded #4. You really don't want to lose that opening game to be able to make it through one. This is also an experienced Kent State that is now making its third trip to a Regional so if they can get placed in a Regional where it's not facing a field with one of the top teams or Top 5-10 team, they could have a shot at putting something togther. I wish there was a team in the region hosting one as I really enjoy college baseball Regionals, Super Regional and the College World Series but it looks like I will be watching them on TV again this year. But hats of to Kent State and best of luck to the Golden Flashes.

Based on the two games in BG, as well as their results in the MAC Tournament, I would think KSU has the starting pitching to make a run. Plus, as 33 said, they've been there before. Would love to see them pick up a few wins & make a nice run.

Kent State did indeed earn a #3 seed, which is very solid for a MAC baseball program. The Golden Flashes are the #3 seed in the Austin Regional and will face #2 Texas State. Texas is the #1 seed and Princeton is the #4.

Nice article on Kent State.

Strickland has developed a program that may have become the premire Ohio Baseball school. He does this with local Ohio players and a staff that has been together for a long time. Kent States puts money into its programs and its coaches thus all the success.

I'm afraid you could be correct on that....and it would be TOTALLY unacceptable.
