MAC track

Really not my intent to flame but what the heck has happened to BG track? After 2 days of the MAC they have no points and have qualified no one for today's finals in any running events. BG has no one competing in the discus, when throws have been a strength in the past. Their best athletes in the HJ and TJ are seeded 17th and 13th. They are the tenth seed in the 4x100 and 8th in the 4x400. If the seeds hold up BG will end up with 0 points. If they drop a baton in the 4x400 or just have an off day they end up with 0. NIU also has 0 but will likely pick up some points from people who have made finals.

I really find it sad that this program has fallen so far. the women's team never approached the level of the BG juggernaut men's teams of the 70s but still they were competitive. Am I correct in thinking they have a new coach this year? That may be part of the problem but I would like to see a day when BG and Toledo had some meaningful battles on the track again.

To be honest, I looked at the BGSU Falcons.com site, saw that three ladies had career bests, then read the article only to find out that NONE of them was better than 11th (I think) overall. So, hate to say it, but you're right about our track program...bad enough to drop the men's program totally, but if the women's side is this weak, it doesn't look good for the future.

Just as an FYI -- Coach Snelling is in his first year as head coach of the program and he has a plan in place. He has redshirted just about every athlete in the program who has the chance to score points at the meet (for example, Jeanette Pettigrew, who finished second in the 60 at the MAC Indoor Championships). There's no doubt the program is down right now but he definitely has a plan and the pedigree (just go look at what he did at Stephen F. Austin) to build the BG Track and Cross Country programs back up.

I wondered if Pettigrew was injured- she's worth a bundle of points by herself. Your explanation makes sense- I knew there was a major overhaul in the coaching department and thought maybe some people left (I think your one top thrower did). Good luck to the new coach. A friend of mine worked with the program last year and was surprised to hear Jeanette wasn't running. Thanks very much for the update.

I am honored- sometimes you get these opinions from people who aren't qualified to render them but this...THIS... (sniff, sniff) well, NO one is more qualified to render this opinion than you and I am overwhelmed. :prayer:

Someone told me that Coach Snelling only took 8 student-athletes to the MACs. I'm guessing his plan involves getting the season over with so that he can use the offseason to start turning things around.
