Coach Salsburg no longer at BG...
http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2015/5/ ... 54214.aspx" target="_blank
Coach Salsburg had a few solid seasons early in her career as well as 2012 but has basically been treading water the last couple seasons. We needed a new spark...Can we get Leigh Shaw back??
Per the official site...Salsburg's teams posted a 196-232-1 overall record during her nine years as head coach, including a 92-98 mark in MAC regular season competition.

Possibly. I understand Mr. Shaw thinks CJ's hamburgers are the best in Bowling Green.Falconfreak90 wrote:http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2015/5/ ... 54214.aspx

Seems odd to have a public announcement while the season is still in progress.

BGSU softball season is OVER. The MAC tournament is going on now, and the Falcons did not make it.

Guess I thought they went later in the month or at least had the tourney left. Do you have any idea about the irregular MAC schedule per games played? From the standings I saw, the eighth seed was Ohio who played four less games than BG in conference and had one less victory although a slightly better winning percentage.

One word - Buffalo.fredthefalcon wrote:Do you have any idea about the irregular MAC schedule per games played?
Games that were supposed to be played at Buffalo and cancelled due to the weather were not made up. Where we played Ball State and Western Michigan at facilities close to their campus due to unplayable fields on-campus (and hosted TSUN and Detroit but played as the visiting team), UB did not make arrangements to play off-campus.

Re: Coach Salsburg no longer at BG...
I think we actually played NIU and WMU at their home fields, but transfer is correct ... a number of games were lost due to weather and/or field conditions, and a lot of them involved Buffalo. The problem with the MAC softball schedule, IMO, is that there aren't a lot of opportunities to make up games that are postponed due to rain. In baseball, you play three games against the same team in a weekend, so if there's bad weather on Friday, you can play a Saturday DH and your regularly-scheduled Sunday game. Or, if the forecast for Sunday is bad, you can play a DH on Friday or Saturday to get all of your games in.
With softball, though, you play one team Friday and another team Sat-Sun. So, if you're scheduled to play Miami in a DH on Friday and Ball State in single games on Saturday and Sunday, there's nothing you can do if the weather is bad on Friday. Those games with Miami just don't get played. I thought I heard that softball might switch to the same scheduling format as baseball. I hope that's the case.

I have to say, I'm sorry to see Coach Salsburg and her staff go. I know the record wasn't great over the last few years, but they had a relatively young team this season, got picked to finish last in the East and basically missed the MAC Tournament by a game. And they were young; there were a lot of freshmen and sophomores in the lineup this season. Unless a bunch of kids transfer out of the program, I think they are on track to be pretty good over the next few years. I hope Kingston makes a good hire. I would gladly take Leigh Ross back, but even though she's marrying the CJ's / Al-Mar spokesmodel
I don't think she will give up the head-coaching job at Syracuse to return to BG.

While we're talking softball. How did Aspen Searle not get voted to at least 2nd Team All MAC. There were 25 non-pitchers selected to the first two teams. Aspen had the 18th highest BA in the MAC, 7th in HRs, 9th in Slugging, 17th in RBIs, and 21st in OBP. Seems like statistically she should have been.

Hire this guy today:
http://www.furmanpaladins.com/sports/w- ... ieson_Kyle" target="_blank
Led them to 30 wins this past year, works miracles with pitching staffs and played a huge role at BG under Leigh and was credited (by her) for much of BG's success towards the end of her tenure here. Hire a couple recruiters who know Ohio and the Midwest as assistants and you'll have a championship in short order.

I'd just as soon hire someone else, thanks. IIRC (and I do), he and Coach Ross had an inappropriate relationship during their last year at BGSU, and it caused a lot of problems within the program. He might be an ok coach, but if if were up to me, I wouldn't hire him.

Thing is though, over the last few season it feels like the team is always a "young team" with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores in the lineups and then when they become juniors or seniors most of them vanish, either rarely playing or leaving the program.threestooges wrote:I have to say, I'm sorry to see Coach Salsburg and her staff go. Re: Coach Salsburg no longer at BG...
That's a very fair point. I follow the team on the BGSU website and get to a few home DHs each year, but I don't know enough about the program to know why kids have left the program or seen playing time diminish. From what I saw this year, I think there is a lot of talent there, and I hope the current players stay and give the new coach a chance, because I feel we have the chance to be good next year.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:Thing is though, over the last few season it feels like the team is always a "young team" with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores in the lineups and then when they become juniors or seniors most of them vanish, either rarely playing or leaving the program.threestooges wrote:I have to say, I'm sorry to see Coach Salsburg and her staff go.
