This should make all of us proud.

I hear complaints about not winning the Reese and Jacoby trophies but this should mean way more. Our women's sports are getting it done in the classroom, which is the main reason they are here. Winning the last three in a row and six out of the last eight shows nothing less than a culture of performing in the classroom . We are experiencing a bit of a championship drought in some of the women's sports but to me this is more important. All of our coaches contracts should include incentives for not only postseason play and championships, but also for excellent academic performance.
Congrats ladies and coaches!

All of the coach's contracts do have bonuses for academic achievement.

FalconFreak I'm not going to dispute the premise that academics are important, but if you truly think that ACADEMICS trump PLAYING surface performance in the realm of college sports you have lost your mind.
People wanted Bergeron's head this year because the team wasn't WINNING, no one said better get a new coach because our team GPA has slipped. Urban Meyer down at Zero State, you really think if he cranks out the next two graduating classes with 4.0 GPAs but only goes 6 - 6 people will say ACADEMICS trump playing performance you can keep your job. Why do you think Frank Solich is coaching at Ohio U, because he couldn't WIN enough at Nebraska.
No way on gods green earth that a coach that cranks out tons of academic awards from their college won't be dismissed because of lack of winning, depending on the the sport and college the leash may be longer. I understand what you are saying and yes academics are important and vital to success on the field as well and after graduation success. But I'm willing to bet you have been to more Bowl Games, Homecoming Games, MAC Championship games, DoubleHeaders, Matches, Meets, etc, then you have attended academic banquets. I agree that you need bright people to win and academics are vital to the mission of the university. However to think that trumps winning....... you're nuts if you think that.

BG does a great job academically, however, we don't have an engineering school that many of our MAC brethren offer. Certainly that is a big part of why we are near the top of the GPA list.
I would trade all the academic achievements for a football, m/w basketball, baseball and volleyball teams that consistently compete for championships. Really most every one of those teams should've doing that outside of baseball. (Not sure much can be expected of a program that doesn't have scholarships fully funded). Football has done a nice job the past few years. The other sports more should be expected, including Women's Soccer, Gymnastics, and Hockey. Winning conference titles shouldn't be a pipe dream in those sports.

We need some balance between academics and winning championships. Hopefully it high on both ends.
