BG Rugby

From the Sentinel Tribune, BG 5th in rugby 7s. I didn't realize it but they made it to the finals in rugby 11s last fall. I'm not certain how the divisions are set up anymore but I know both Lindenwood and St Marys are excellent programs. Beating OSU is always good.

Bowling Green State University's rugby team won the Mid-American Conference with a 26-14 win over Louisville in the championship game, giving the Falcons a berth in sevens national tournament for the third straight year.

Bowling Green lost in the fifteens national championship game in the fall. It is the third straight year that the Falcons have been to nationals in sevens and fifteens. In sevens, only seven players from each team are on the field at a time. They compete in two seven-minute halves.

In the MAC tournament, Bowling Green beat Central Michigan (29-5), Miami (34-0) and Dayton (14-0) to advance to the four-team playoff of the tournament.

In the playoff, the Falcons crushed Western Michigan 33-7 to set up the championship match with Louisville. Louisville led 7-0 before Bowling Green came back to go up 14-7, only to see the Cardinals tie the match at 14-14 just before the half. The Falcons, who improved to 23-3, scored the match's final 12 points, icing the match with a try with two minutes to play.

The national tournament will be played in Glendale, Colorado, starting May 19.
