Perfect Game

Post by fredthefalcon »

R-FR Payton Gottshall has picked up where she left off last year in a shorten softball season though even better. She pitched in 3 of the 4 games this weekend in the dome at Cleveland State and garnered 3 W's. The Falcons lost the game she didn't throw in. Payton started out with a one hit victory with 20 K's, meaning only one batter scored an out without fanning. Then she out did that performance with a perfect game including 16 more K's for win #2. Finally, she was called on in relief in the 2nd inning of a game that was getting out of hand with 6 early Cleveland State runs. Payton put out the fire after giving up an unearned run and threw 7+ innings in a game that went 9 before BG came back for an 8-7 victory. Oh and BTW she set down another 15 batters on strikes.

Gottshall went 2-1 the second weekend. She added two shutouts and 3 complete games with 43 more strikouts. She always faces the opponents ace and so we rarely score many runs for her.

They need to find a decent second pitcher. Every MAC series has 1 DH so they need someone to be decent in the back half of those DH. Vanatter had a nice first start but has struggled since. Stepp did well for a couple innings last weekend.
