Yeah, it's definitely been a rough year. Obviously we were going to take a step back when Gottshall transferred. With Hurley graduating, we lost the two pitchers that threw a combined 161 of the 188 innings in MAC games last year. Gottshall and Greta L'Esperance each made the All MAC first team last year, & Greta -- the team's leadoff hitter & quite possibly the fastest player in the MAC -- got hurt on opening day this season & is out for the season. They have had one or two other injuries (Lexi Carver comes to mind) to players who would be in the lineup and possibly contributing as well. The one silver lining is a lot of freshmen are getting playing time, so hopefully those players will be able to help turn things around in 2024 or 25. But 2023 has definitely been a struggle, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I wouldn’t count on softball being better anytime soon. Let’s just say the coaching is an issue. Most people I know were shocked at the hire that was made after the last coach left.

Interesting. I was never very impressed with the last coach. I felt like the best player she ever recruited (Gottshall, obviously) just kind of fell into her lap at the 11th hour. I was hoping maybe the team would do better in the long run with Willis gone. Once Gottshall transferred, I think everyone knew that this year's team would take a step backward in terms of W-L record, but I didn't expect it to be this many steps backward. I definitely don't know much about Coach Fenton & her staff at this point, but I've seen a few games in 2023, and I do know wins are gonna be hard to come by in the remainder of this season.

Coach Fenton isn't very experienced, at least coaching. Her bio says:
"Fenton-Bockbrader joined the Falcons' staff after spending three years with Total Sports in Rossford. She performed a myriad of duties with that organization, including serving as Total Softball Director and coaching the Finesse-Fenton Regional Showcase Team. Fenton-Bockbrader worked in all areas of administration, served as tournament director and as a private instructor, and also mentored college-bound student-athletes.
Fenton-Bockbrader spent six years (2011-17) as a high-school special education intervention specialist at Elmwood Local Schools, where she also was assistant athletic director and an assistant softball coach. She also served as a special education intervention specialist at Springfield High School (2007-11), where she was the junior varsity softball head coach and varsity assistant coach".
She is a BG Grad and played for the Falcons. But that lack in coaching experience is worrisome to me...Moose made the hire.

Obviously the loss of top 2 pitchers including the MAC POTY has a dramatic effect on this team but the hitting is still way down particularly power numbers. Of the returning players only Weber is experiencing a better year. Dees numbers are up but were way below team average last year. The remainder are suffering a power outage. The team has only hit 9 HRs in 32 games which is on pace for 18 for the year. Last year they hit 33 and the vast majority of HR hitters are back.

3 lopsided home losses to Miami this week.

Don't see how the head coach remains after this season. 19 straight losses and really very, very few were competitive. Also lost 22 out of that last 23. Total runs scored by BG in the last 19 is 27 so even if Gottschall were back only a very few more victories would have likely occurred if she threw a shutout.

Bob Moosbrugger is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to dead money. Incompetence was hiring this coach, total incompetence was allowing Bob Moosbrugger to hire this coach before he was fired.

I agree...8-36? 21 losses in a row?

BG actually won the last game of the season, 4-2 over NIU, to stop a 26 game losing streak. The season is mercifully over at 9-41, 2-28 MAC and we failed to win a single game at home. That record is embarrassing and should never happen at BG. Let those #'s sink in...9-41, 2-28 MAC. And a lot of games the mercy rule was in play due to blowouts.
We need a real HC...not a supervisor of a sports academy. I hope DVDM is interviewing prospects now. Need to cut our losses on this one.
