Baseball beats Akron, 10-1..

Game 1 yesterday in the home opener! DJ Newman went 7 1/3 innings on the mound scattering 7 hits and no runs.
Game 2 today at 3pm.

BG trails 5-4 in the top of the 6th...Zips still batting. In a dogfight today....

Gavin Ganun hits a grand slam as part of a 7 run bottom of the 8th for BG!!! Falcons lead 11-6 going to the top of the 9th. This team is NEVER out of it.

Akron had a middle relief pitcher that no hit us for 4 innings as they gradually took the lead. Then bottom of the 8th, consecutive hits sent him packing and the game changed from there.
Fun offense with occasional decent pitching.

And the sweep is complete again!! 15-5 final orange and brown. BG now 11-8, 9-0 MAC.
Step out of conference Tuesday at Notre Dame and then a 3 game series at Xavier next weekend.

As someone who created a baseball scholarship at BG about 7 years ago, this makes me very happy. I am hoping this is the year the title drought ends and BG's assent to the top of the conference is just the start of many years as the kings of MAC baseball.

Would love to see BG become the new MAC power on the diamond. We've had good seasons in the past but never really strung together success. Coach Hallock told me a couple times he wants to build BG to the level of Kent State. That would be AWESOME. I am so jacked up about the baseball program. ROLL ALONG!

I felt from the get-go that Hallock was a good hire, so I'm glad to see things at least starting to turn. The best part of creating the scholarship? I get a note/letter each year from the scholarship recipient, so I get to know (a little) about the person who is going to school and playing baseball because of it.
