Softball hangs tough with #2 OU

Post by Siborg »

Lost 8-5 with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th. Also, according to the stats, OU played a strong lineup, so they didn't seem to take us lightly from that perspective. It's still a loss but has to feel pretty good given the last few years.

Coach Gardner has this team light years ahead of where we were the last two seasons. Quite a day yesterday.

Agree. They played great D despite an error in the 8th that allowed the HR hitter to come to the plate. Nevertheless, I assume she will work on finding better pitching or at least one who can have an ERA at 2.00 or below. Pitching wise the cupboard was basically bare on arrival.

Won 2 of 3 so far this weekend. 5-14 overall, not great but improving. Plaing IU this afternoon.

10-18 and 4-2 in the MAC after winning the final game vs Kent State on Saturday. It's amazing what Coach Gardner and her staff have done with this team so far.

True but I will still say they need better pitching. Also, we have to take some caution based on the fact that Buffalo and Kent both have had bad records. We will get a better feel when they play MAC teams without a string of losses. Miami, Ohio, Ball State and maybe Akron fit that bill.

I don't disagree with anything you said. I don't think they are going to win the MAC or even come close, but it's nice to see them beating other teams. They were 3-23 in the MAC last year, so the fact that they've already won four MAC games is great. And when I said it's amazing what Coach Gardner and her staff have done with this team, I mean it's amazing what they've done given the relative lack of pitching.
