I started a new thread, this is a surprise. The best I thought was the 3rd round. But Nolan got selected as the 61st pick to the Baltimore O's.

This is certainly a pleasant surprise. That was quick duncan, I am watching the webcast as well. Look for Reimold to be in Aberdeen in the Orioles system, that's the class A New York Penn League. Doesn't look like he will be back for his senior year.

I thought I would be the only one actually tracking the draft. Congratulations to Nolan for being such a high draft pick.

He'll be making some good money. Last year's 61st pick made around a $600,000 signing bonus. He's definately not coming back. Congrats.

Just looking over the list of draftees and noticed former major leaguers Ivan DeJesus and Bryan Harvey getting drafted again. Also, Patrick Phillips was chosen in the second round as well. Dakich can't even keep the walk-ons on the team.

Awesome news. I was hoping he'd come back too, but being drafted in the 2nd round.....have fun in pro ball Nolan!

I hope your wrong on this prediction. I don't see why $600,000 is the magic number to go pro. If Nolan decides to go pro, so be it and I wish him the best of luck. However, I'm not giving up hope that he may be back for one more season. Remember Mark Prior was the 43 pick back in 1998 by the NY Yankees and turned down a $ 1,000,000 contract. He decided instead to go to college for four years and improved his draft stock to the number 2 pick overall and received a $4,000,000 signing bonus. Nolan has a lot of potential and may improve his draft position even more if he plays one more season at BG. Anyways, I'm not quite yet to wish him well in the pros.

He "might" improve his position, but would not have ANY bargaining power, when it comes to $$$$$$$. $600,000 is a life changing amnount of money at 21 years ol, and that would be his "signing BONUS"!!!!! If he waits til next year they can say, "Sign here", and he basically has no other choices.

This was not really a surprise, as Nolan REALLY lit it up at Camden Yards last week in a tryout type situation. He ran a 6.6 60 yd, threw better than major league average, and hit bombs "OUT" of Camden Yard, from the report I got.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. He was drafted 61st, which means he will make slightly more than the 61st pick made last draft for a signing bonus, but less than #60 did for 2004. That's just the way signing bonuses traditionally work in MLB. He has no "bargaining power", he will get what the 61st pick is deemed worthy of this year, which will be slightly more than $575,000. If he decides to come back to BG, sure his starts from square one, well not quite square one since he has some really nice seasons under his belt. It is always a risk to come back, but its is also a risk to forfeit potential money that he could earn if he as able to command first round draft money ($1,000,000+). Believe it or not but some players chose to remain in college and forego this payday. Nolan may be one of those players and I for one am not pushing him out the door and patting him on the back quite yet. I think he and BG baseball may both have goals that have yet to be achieved, that maybe motivation enough to get him to STAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sure can, but I don't know any details on the Reimold's finances. So I can't comment on that issue. For each player drafted, it is a deeply personal decision filled with many influences that are both seen and unseen to the general public that affect a decision to go pro or to remain in school. Nolan has a big decision to make and whatever he ultimately decides to do, he has this alumnus's best wishes and support.

You all know now that I'm a huge Minor League Baseball junkie, so I thought I'd inform you that if he does indeed go to Aberdeen-the Mahoning Valley Scrappers are in the same league-so go out and see J.R.!
