I just checked out the Alberdeen Ironbirds' website to see how Nolan was doing so far, he is leading the team in both HR's (6) and RBI's (20), has the 9th best batting average in the Penn League and has been voted the most favorite player by the Alberdeens fans. It sounds like he has been a ral difference maker for the team and made quite an impression with the fans.

Right, Nolan's doing an outstanding job with Aberdeen.

He is not only leading the team in HRs and RBIs, but he also leads the team in Games Played, ABs, Runs, Hits, 2Bs, 3Bs, Total Bases, BBs, OBP, and SLG. He is second in BA at .324. And has yet to commit an error. He's playing like a real stud in A ball.

Nolan's six homeruns for Aberdeen is a new team record for home runs in a season.

Nolan has been in a slump lately, his average is down to .281 and hasn't hit a HR in a while. Not everything is bad, he continues to draw plenty of walks and leads the team with 12 doubles.

Nolan went 2 for 4 with a three run bomb last evening (7 on the year). Hopefully this signifies the end of his minor slump.

To update Nolan's progress, he's hitting .406 during this most recent 8-game hitting streak.

He's been promoted to full season High A Frederick (Carolina League). He's in CF tonight batting 3rd.

Nolan is just tearing up the minors, to the surprise of most people. I don't think anyone has questioned his ability, but to produce at this rate is a great surpirse.

In the now daily Nolan Reimold watch, the Orioles' second-round pick this year continues to punish Carolina League pitching. Reimold hit two homers against high Class A Myrtle Beach on Saturday and is now batting .333/.484/.833 in 24 at-bats. Four of his eight hits have been homers

More praise for Nolan from Baseball America. In a group of some of the best prospects in baseball. He's not the #16 overall prospect in baseball, but he may come close to the top 100, if he keeps it up for a couple more weeks.

If he's doing so well, why hasn't he made the jump up to AA ball? It's not like the Orioles are having what one would call a "successful" season.

Well for a number of reasons.

1. Believe it or not but Nolan might not be quite ready for AA ball. He did have a minor slump for a while with Aberdeen and that would be enough to maybe warrant a slighty slower progression. But keep in mind also that Nolan's jump from Aberdeen is a jump from what is essentially A- ball, past Delmarva (the A team), and onto A+ ball with Frederick. I for one think this is a great progression thus far in the season.

2. Currently, there may not be room on the AA team (Bowie). The team may be full of players on their way to AAA at his position. I don't know the details on the team so I cannot say if this is probable.

3. The Orioles likely want to see him play more than just nine games with Frederick before he makes another jump.

4. A jump likley doesn't do much for Nolan at this point in the season since he is not going to be moving to the Bigs this season, so why rush him along.

Basically, I feel Nolan is moving along at a rapid enough pace and I see no reason why to rush him along this season. He is at best a mid to late-season addition to the team next season anyways, so the idea would be to have him primed and ready to cute his teeth on AA or AAA ball early next season.

Outfielder Nolan Reimold and lefthander Garrett Olson would have been happy finishing out the year at short-season Aberdeen this year after being two of the Orioles' top draft picks in June.

Neither expected to be bumped up; and if they did, both targeted low Class A Delmarva as the next stop before season's end. So needless to say, it came as a surprise when both top picks were promoted to high Class A Frederick to help the Keys lock down the Carolina League's Northern Division down the stretch.

"I was a little bit surprised when they told me I was going to Frederick," Reimold said. "(IronBirds manager) Andy (Etchebarren) called me in, told me I was going and my reaction--after three minutes--was 'Really? Are you serious?' But I was glad to hear that. I knew I could play with the guys up here and I've been doing all right so far."

Doing all right might be an understatement. Reimold became an instant middle-of-the-order threat on a club that had just lost its primary force when outfielder Nick Markakis was promoted to Double-A. Four of Reimold’s first eight hits for the Keys were homers. While he's leveled off since then, the second-round pick out of Bowling Green State still provides the big bat in Frederick's lineup.

"He's the youngster," manager Bien Figeuroa said. "He came in here and had an immediate impact. He's going to see a lot more offspeed pitches in this league than he did in the New York-Penn (League), so he's going to have to make some adjustments. He can tend to get a little long in his swing, trying to pull a lot of balls, so we're working on him using the whole field and taking advantage of his long arms.

"Nobody's going to replace Markakis--on this team, or in this league. But Nolan gave us a lift and hopefully that will carry through the playoffs."
