Men's Soccer Ends 25 game winless streak, upsets #11 Ohio St

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team ended a 25-game winless streak when it upset #11 Ohio State, 3-2 in two overtimes, Friday at Cochrane Field.

Freshman Kyle Williams scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the second overtime (106:00) to give second-year coach Fred Thompson his first win as the Falcons head coach. The Falcons are now 1-5-1 this season after finishing 0-19 last season. Out of 23 players on the squad, 10 are freshman and seven are sophomores.

BGSU last won a game November 9, 2003 against Kentucky.

More information will be available later at BGSUFalcons.com.

The Buckeyes are 5-2.

Wow!!! What a way to end a losing streak (that seemed to last forever)!!! Hopefully this will get these guys finally going in the right direction! Congratulations guys...a long overdue and much needed win. And it was extra special being it was over a ranked Ohio State team! :)

I'll take a win over OSU anytime I can get it, no matter what sport. Also nice to see this team get a win over a great team like OSU before the MAC season starts. Great confidence builder.

Also of interest to the soccer team and the MAC is that IPFW has become an affiliate member for soccer. IPFW will play all MAC men's soccer teams this fall, and will compete for the MAC Championship.

If it was going to happen then I am glad it was against a ranked team
