Andy Tracy an Indian?

Post by TG1996 »

Not seeing this anywhere, but the Indians signed an infielder named Andy Tracy to a minor league contract today.

Certainly it has to be the same one, right?

I am sure it is. I talked to Andy a couple of weeks ago and he said the Indians were one of the three teams they were talking too. There may be a little more to this signing than just going to Buffalo, as I have heard that there may be some trade possibilities with a 1B from the Indians!!
It is GREAT to have him in the American League, where he can play 1B and also DH. A LH power hitter is always a need in the AL.

The Indians have one of the youngest but more exciting infields around right now. I love the plays that Ronnie Belliard puts together, and Ben Broussard seems to be a solid infielder as well.

I know he might be traded, but I can't imagine they'd want to lose his bat.

That would be cool, I actually had a couple classes with Andy at BG.

Honestly, Broussard's bat is relatively weak for a 1B. The Indians were able to put up with it because they are getting power from other positions (SS, C) that you normally don't. The Indians biggest need is a big right handed bat that can play 1B or RF.

I have "heard" from a good source that they are working on a trade for Broussard (this was a couple weeks ago), plus the ongoing negotiations with Nomar, just make me think that somethin is going on with the 1B position. If Nomar would go to RF then Casey Blake may come into 1B also.
I honestly think this might have had a lot to do with Andy signing with the Indians, because I know they were talking to Baltimore and another American League team.

Why is the Tracy signing related to trading Broussard? Are you saying they think he could make the team as a 3B/1B? Who would the Indians get for Broussard?

That is the mystery, but supposedly Broussard is on the trading block, and yes, that could leave a corner/DH spot open for Andy.

Would be very cool to see Tracy in an Indians uniform.

Best of luck to him!
