So I'm at a bar tonight...
...and who walks in with an entourage? Troy Smith. Seriously. The whole place went totally friggin' nuts. The funny part, though, was that as he walked in, so did a bunch of girls pushing Bud Select (trading full bottles of it with half-empty bottles of Coors, Miller, etc., which in-and-of-itself is totally illegal). I honestly didn't believe it because, I thought to myself, no college athlete could be so stupid as to pull a stunt like this before a NC game. So, I walk outside and I see a stretch Hummer limo. Then I began to believe. Then I walked to the back of the bar where he was signing autographs, and sure enough, it was Troy Smith himself. Shortly after I saw him, he walked by me to go out the back way, along with all of the girls that were pushing Bud Select. My sensibilities as a college football fan were so totally offended it was outrageous. I am honestly wondering if I should call the NCAA about this? I mean, knowing what NCAA guidelines are, there is nothing about this whole situation that strikes me as legal. I also realize that, living in Ohio, were I to be the impetus for TS not playing in the NC game, I would probably be killed.
What should I do? My sense is that I should keep the interest of college football in general in mind, but I don't know.

And here I thought OSU fans took the holiday off from being douchebags. Guess not.

And the Bowling Green pile on has begun. Suddenly this is my/our fault? OSU fans sure seem to get defensive rather quickly...

Wow. You mean they have 20,000 students? They have Division I sports teams? They have successful alumni? The world doesn't evolve around Columbus? The earth isn't flat?"Wow. Bowling Green actually has a message board? And people talk on there?"
And even other schools have message boards? MAC teams? Sun Belt teams? Even I-AA teams? Someone has to stop such behavior!

Do you have pictures to prove that it was Troy? Did you see him accept any cash for his services? Are you sure that no BG player of the past or present hasn't accepted anything in exchange for their celebrity?
In theory, Troy's eligibility with the NCAA was up after the last play of the Michigan game. He has graduated from OSU (and is in grad school). The BCS isn't controlled by the NCAA, so most of their rules don't apply to bowl eligibility and a teams status (i.e. Reggie Bush) Leinhart at USC was in the same boat. He had graduated prior to last fall and was in GS. He hung out with Nick and Jessica and Paris. Do you think he bought rounds for them? Do you think that he drove to the night clubs in his old '90 Toyota Cellica? NO. He more than likely has had a lot thrown his way that he didn't have to pay for. A lot more than Troy can ever claim to have received. When you are a start athlete in a big town, regardless of the sport, you get some free passes. There is nothing wrong with signing autographs. So long as you don't take money for the efforts.
What you don't know is if he has agreed to something that would pay him on January 9th for his efforts now. While ethically wrong, technically there is nothing illegal. Lots of players, and I have seen many underage hockey players and football players served drinks at bars in BG in plane view of other patrons. Some in front of the then Prosecuting Attorney for Wood County.
I think you are trying to make smoke where there is no fire. You are just pissed that Tressel is 5-1 against Michigan and you despise anything OSU. Go ahead and try to start a fire, but the NCAA and others will be pouring water on you before you can get a match out of the match box.
