Brady Hoke is in the hot seat as well. Every two or so seasons without a National Championship takes its toll on the Wal-Mart Wolverines.

Sure thing. He only beat one of the three big rivals last year (ND) and is off to a historically bad start. If he goes 1-5 against the big rivals over a two year stretch, I can't imagine he'll be back next year. And their AD is pretty unpopular among the alums, especially after once calling the fans "customers" instead of "loyal fans, alumni, and community members." This article pretty well sums up the problems M has with their AD.

I think that's two straight AD's for them with little to no experience managing athletic departments or any substantial experience in college athletics for that matter. Their new guy can land 150+ million dollar donations but can't hire the right coach to win on the field.

Shots fired. Charlie Weis was fired by Kansas this morning. He inherited a complete mess so it is hard to tell if he actually made progress.

And after Hoke played a clearly concussed QB yesterday I wouldn't be stunned if he is gone tomorrow. Word is the AD is on his way out too.

Illinois lost to a terrible Purdue team today. I wouldn't be surprised if ol Timmy B gets fired this week.

Who gets canned first - Beckman or Hoke?

Troy's longtime coach Blakeney announced his retirement. He has been the coach for seemingly forever as the team has elevated from a lower level team to a Sun Belt team. The team seemed to every year be the Sun Belt champ and upset a big team, but the program has taken a few backward steps in recent years. I know the alums have been frustrated with the lack of championships these past few years and have been worried that Blakeney has peaked and will not be able to rekindle the successes of prior years. Whoever takes over will have some big shoes to fill.

I wouldn't hire Weis to coach a JR high team. He should stick to the coordinator role.

There are certain coaching jobs out there that are death traps. Illinois is one of those. Purdue is another.

Looking at the B1G, the jobs that will get you fired would be Indiana, Purdue, and Minnesota. Perhaps also Indiana, but they seem patient.

Essentially, any school that performs poorly in football but strives to be the best football school in the conference will fire you pretty darn quick. Now, there are plenty of schools that are eternally bad in a good conference that let you stay on as coach for quite a while. Clawson is at one of those in Wake Forest. I would lump in Iowa and Northwestern with Wake, as well as a few others. I realize Illinois is a nice paycheck, but taking that job is basically admitting you want to be done coaching in the next 2-4 years.

I'm waiting for a confirmation from the athletic department, but I've seen a few posts ... including jpfalcon09 over on the football page ... that Jeff Quinn of Buffalo has been fired. Too bad, I liked what he was doing with the Bulls. I also met his family in our 2010 homecoming game - classy, nice family. Quinn was Brian Kelley's OC at Cincinnati and has a great reputation with offenses, so he will land on his feet.

Edit: It's official. Athletic department website has an announcement about the move.
