Is that straight up or do you get to add barbeque sauce, or some Spicy Garlic from BW-3.
And do you have to eat that bug without anything to drink (should) or something to drink (sort of cheating).
We'll leave that up to 1987.
kdog - I hope you're right. I really hope Tressel gets flogged and OSU gets the death penalty.
But I just have a bad feeling that Zero State will do what it always seems to do - find some loophole, catch some break and wind up above the law. That's the way it seems to go for them.

They're not getting the death penalty...but serious sanctions and Tressel's head could and should be a part of the end result. If they could take out Pete Carroll and come down on USC, they can do it to anyone.
Frankly..I don't like the "well...they'll let them slide, it's OSU" attitude. It's kind of enabling for the cheaters if we just thorw up our hands when they're caught.

I have to agree, but........remember Jim O'Brien.
OSU fired O'Brien immediately after he admitted to giving a prospective recruit money for his family (something like $16,000). O'Brien sues OSU and OSU loses and has to pay him around $4 Million. OSU fired O'Brien BEFORE the NCAA found him guilty of infractions.
I've read Tressell's contract and believe he could have already been released, but I have to wonder if O'Brien is what is holding up OSU officials from doing the right thing. But I would have suspended Tressell from the program and would not be making supportive comments.

I'll disagree that us throwing up our hands enables them. It's the system letting them slide that enables them. I'm hoping the system works this time.

Like Mr Hand said in Fast Times at Ridgemont High - "It's a game you both play...you pretend not to ditch and the teachers pretend they don't see you". Both the NCAA and O$U have let this happen. O$U is a huge cash cow...but they need the hammer brought down on them. It's the only way what little integrity the NCAA has left can be salvaged.

87...Yeah..maybe "we" don't enable the cheating..but the people in Ohio..the people in Columbus...the people who have a connection to OSU...when those people defend this nonsense or state from the outset that the coach isn't going anywhere, I definitley think it enables the cheaters. They need to be called out. The University Presdient needs to grow a pair when addressing the situation publically....
and FWIW...I'm not laying odds on Tressel's employment because I honestly don't think we've even scratched the surface of the scum flaoting on this pond.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Gotcha. Yeah, I think the general attitude in the state (Ohio, that is), certainly creates an atmosphere where this kind of thing is dismissed. Gee won't grow a pair because, well, why should he? He isn't really getting any pressure from anyone who matters. I suspect most of the boo$ters are taking this as white noise that will fade away.
I'd like to see the NCAA come down like a ton of bricks on Zero State, but given that I just read a piece that suggests the NCAA is seriously considering flat-out paying athletes, I just don't see it happening. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

Supposedly there's news coming very soon regarding a housing for players scandal and/or a vacations for recruits and families scandal. If there's truth there and truth to the car story, the NCAA will absolutely have to bring the hammer down as hard as possible. Not to send a message to other schools about cheating, but to punish them for corruption beyond anybody's imaginable belief.

Anyone who follows college sports can imagine this easily. Stuff like this and worse has gone on forever and will go on as long as there are bigtime $ involved.
The Big 10 is now looking to pass a...bill, law, something...that will allow them to PAY athletes for playing on a varsity team. The number I heard thrown around was $2,000-$5,000 per school year. This was on top of scholarships.

This won't stop anything. If they pay a player X amount of dollars, they are still going to take (X + what boosters give them). They can't pay them enough to stop them from taking a handshake. I don't feel bad for any of these kids. Myself and countless others worked all through college and still owe money years later.
