Actually, this is a great move on the part of ESPN. They want ESPNU on as many networks as possible. There needs to be a high demand for that to happen. I would not be surprised to see more "big" games on the U. The more people request that channed, the more networks will pick it up cable or other.

Also, it only cost me $10/month to upgrade my dish package to get ESPNU. Not $125. And programming removals only cost $5 so I could upgrade to 180 for a few hours and then change it back to 120 for slightly more than $5 and watch the game.
Matt Markey also has an article in the bland today on this to which I e-mailed him the following:
"Matt, I think you should have noted the affiliation between the Blade and Buckeye Cable in your article this morning…tisk tisk
And the game is available locally on Dish Network and Direct TV. You know those technology lemons the Block empire constantly rails against!
And by the way, I applaud Disney for this decision. As you pointed out in the article us true sports fans now have 3 more competitive games to choose to watch this Saturday."

This is what they did back in the early to mid-90s when ESPN2 was launched. They always had the North Carolina-Duke basketball games on ESPN2 when a lot of people didn't have it. It is brilliant by ESPN. I don't know any numbers, but I would assume that a lot of people in Columbus and all over Ohio have added ESPNU to their package if available or have bitched and complained to their cable company that doesn't even offer it. I will bet you that Time Warner (and other companies) will have ESPNU and the Big 10 channel by next year. I would bet money that everyone in Ohio will have at least the option to watch every Big 10 game played next season in their own home.
EDIT: I realized after I posted this that, if I remember right, the Big 10 network will only be available on DirectTV or something, right? I wonder if there will be some type of deal worked out with local stations to carry games at least in markets like Columbus. If anyone knows, I would be interested to hear about the deal.
“Every Bucks game needs to be televised every week," Buckeyes fan Steve Carpenter of suburban Dublin told The Columbus Dispatch. John Jewell of Grayson, Ky., added, “This is absolutely ridiculous that the No. 1 team in the country is being shown on ESPNU. This is a snub to all OSU fans.”
Hey Steve, last I checked EVERY Bucks game is on TV, you doofus.
In a completely ironic twist, if I recall correctly from one of my history of television classes I took as an undergrad OSU football and PPV cable tv have a bit of a storied past. When cable tv was in it's infancy a cable operator in Columbus started showing Ohio State games, back when only one came a week was carried on network, and charged a fee to watch them. The early success of this PPV venture helped lay the groundwork for cable to enter a lot of homes and also opened up the arena of PPV events.
The history of PPV and pay cable shared a parallel course until 1974 when Coaxial Communication inaugurated the first true PPV service in Columbus, Ohio. The service, called Telecinema, provided movies priced at $2.50 per title. Telecinema shortly succumbed to pay cable's better revenue stream. Warner Cable introduced Columbus to another short-lived PPV service via its interactive QUBE system in 1978.
I am pretty sure that Ohio State football was also offered on these early PPV systems.

INSIGHT picked it up in Chillicothe from what I have heard but they didnt pick it up until Yesterday.

HAH!!
I dont know what company you are through but when I called to ask about it this is how it was explained to me.
I have a satellite package i get 60 channels for 59 $ a month.
In order to get ESPNU I have to upgrade to the "super package" which is 125 a month. So the upgrade is going to cost me 65 bucks. not worth it for one game.
I can not just order ESPNU without upgrading to that package. If I could just upgrade ESPNU then great! but you have to buy the super package.
SO, Either I have to pay double what my bill is now to get ESPNU or the lady on the phone didnt know what the hell she was talking about and was trying to rip me off.

I guess that shows BG people can be pricks too huh?
My dad and mom came up for the BG/CMU game cuz I get the U on my Dish Network. Dad kept laughing saying what a great commerical for getting subscribers to the U. Every ten minutes during the BG/CMU game, ESPN was plugging the OSU/Indiana game. Very effective if ya think about it.
Cost me an extra $10 a month for the U with the Dish package I have. Cable sucks, pure and simple. Once you go Dish, you never go back.

DISH Network has it as a part of their 180 package. I had the 120 package at in only costs $10 more a month for the 180 package. I think the 180 package is $20 more a month than the 60 package.
