Talk about the Buckeyes the Wolverines the Hilltoppers the Ducks the Beavers the Chanticleers... or anyone else who isn't BG or an opponent in this forum.

That being said, who's to say the B-11 wants them, and for that matter, that any of the schools in question necessarily want to go to the conference....
Rutgers, Pitt, and WVU would all kill to be in the new B12. WVU isn't happening. The choice will be based on academics & the almighty dollar, not how good the football team has been.
I'm not worried about who the B11 would take from the Big East. I'm worried about who the Big East would take from the MAC.
Since you brought that up... I heard someone interview Delaney on the radio last week. He was talking mostly about the Big Ten network and how it will get exposure for some smaller sports. He continued by saying something like 'The Big Ten conference has won national titles in football, basketball, foosball, tiddlywinks, hockey, snowboarding, ...' Whoa, hold the phone, wait a second. When did the Big Ten start playing hockey? Yes, there are schools from the Big Ten that play hockey. But the Big Ten itself does not include hockey. I thought he was way out of line trying to take credit for the accomplishments of the CCHA and say they are the accomplishments of the Big Ten. He owes the CCHA (and that other hockey conference that Minny is in) a HUGE apology.
Why doesn't that surprise me? He's about as arrogant as they come...

BGSU-12 TIME MAC CHAMPION
FALCON FOOTBALL ROCKS!
If the Big East were to add teams they would take them from C-USA. There is really no school that would benefit the Big East at all. I'd say the only school that may have a chance is OU given the success of their programs as a whole, with an emphasis placed on men's basketball.

Why doesnt Louisville make the most sense?
Delaney has said he wants to expand into a new state. WV, Rutgers or Louisville that would seem. I agree that expanding a conference based off your infant new television network makes little sense. Expanding for other reasons makes a ton of sense.
Delaney also said there would not neccesarily be a conference championship.

Why doesnt Louisville make the most sense?
Because it's a crap school outside the Big Ten's cultural footprint, in a land with few television sets.

Agreed, and beyond that, as I indicated previously, expansion is not Delaney's call, it's the University Presidents. They look at it as the opportunity to share research, academic programs, etc.
So, that's why Rutgers makes the most sense. Don't forget, Rutgers is "New Jersey State University".
If the Big East is taking anyone from the MAC it would probably be both Ohio and Miami in order to keep rivalries - UC - Miami, Ohio - Miami. Both Ohio and Miami have great tradition, good basketball teams, and Miami has a great tradition in football, although it's not showing it right now. Ohio is up and coming quickly in football under Solich.

Thing is though I can't see either OU or Miami in the Big East, the only three MAC schools I can see the Big East interested in are Toledo, Buffalo, and Northern Illinois.
I also can't see the Big East considering any MAC schools if they lose anyone, I see them doing the same thing they did last time, raiding C-USA.
I generally agree with the idea that the Big East would probably go for C-USA's to replace a lost member.....but then shouldn't we be concerned about who Conference USA might hijack from us?

I'm not. Particularly if Memphis or East Carolina were to leave -- why would a MAC school want to join?
The Plain Dealer's Elton Alexander asked Miami's AD about this idea in 2003, around the time Miami had won the GMAC Bowl. Miami's AD laughed at the idea and didn't have much good to say about it.
I think Conference USA would look at Louisiana Tech or North Texas or another Sun Belt school.
eRichFalcon wrote:but then shouldn't we be concerned about who Conference USA might hijack from us?
I don't see C-USA coming after the MAC because, except for Marshall, all the other schools are southern schools. I agree with who said Louisana Tech as on option for C-USA, they shouldn't be in the WAC
