couch never got a fair deal in cleveland. first, he wasn't supposed to play his rookie season. that's why they signed ty detmer. however, in the 50-0 debacle against pittsburgh in the first game, the FO panicked and made palmer put couch in at QB the second game. he wasn't ready and he was shell-shocked.golfertk14 wrote:Mike, Mike, Mike....There have been MANY QBs that were good and then made it to the NFL and couldn't throw for anything.Metz wrote:He wouldn't have made it to the NFL if he couldn't throw for anything.
Eli Manning?
Tommy Maddox?
Carson Palmer?
Sound familiar???
second, he played behind an offensive line that was cornerstoned by guard jim pyne. i'll repeat that for you, JIM FREAKIN' PYNE! he never played with a good right tackle, let alone a good left tackle.
third, his number one receiver was kevin johnson. just as a reminder, johnson couldn't even top the WR depth chart in baltimore.
fourth, look at the RBs he had behind him. errict rhett? travis prentice? these were the definitions of bums. no QB could do anything with them running behind them.
fifth, have you ever been concussed? if so, i doubt you would be saying what you are saying about the "crying thing." tim couch should have never been allowed to talk to the media after that game. i guarantee you he had no idea where he was, who he was talking to, or even who he was at that point. concussions are scary things. especially when someone fills you in on the happenings after you suffer one. you literally have no clue what happened in that time span.
sixth, and i left this for last as it had already been said, who had a winning record the lone playoff season since the browns have been back? oh yeah, it was timmy couch. he went 8-6 that season. kelly "the second coming" holcomb went 1-2 including the playoff game in which the browns collapsed. AND if holcomb doesn't throw that final pass behind andre king, he could have gotten out of bounds to set up one final play. and if he doesn't fumble allowing KC to score a TD in the first game of the season (dwayne rudd's helmet throw), the whole season may have been different.
blaming couch for anything in cleveland browns' history is being very short-sighted. couch is the least of our problems. had they handled him correctly, he is still starting for us today instead of trent dilfer.
