So I'm at a bar tonight...

Talk about the Buckeyes the Wolverines the Hilltoppers the Ducks the Beavers the Chanticleers... or anyone else who isn't BG or an opponent in this forum.

Winky face would have been more helpful. Gotcha.

Anyhoo, I do wonder the timing of Saxy's post because stated "a couple days later". That could have been tonight.

I don't follow OSU that closely but this may be worth a looking into by the NCAA. Not against OSU per se, but against Budweiser. They should be smacked down hard if there is any impropriety on their part.

Mostly this thread is kind of tedious but rUiT (sorry), if this happened wouldn't the player be at fault here? Any legal restrictions about commercial enterprise would apply to the player I would think, not Bud. Unless you're talking strictly about the economic impact Bud has through advertising and the NCAA smacking them down by restricting their ad time. Like that's gonna happen.

That's what I was thinking. It would be easier to do that than to deal with the PR nightmare which would ensue.

It's my belief that the BCS is trying to compete with the NCAA. I imagine they would love to see the NCAA wriggle on a hook for a while.

is it really shocking to anyone that Troy Smith might be doing something illegal or that O$U runs a crooked program?

I thought that was just a generally accepted fact...

No please explain to me some "violations" we've made as a program at Miami in the past few years...I'd love to hear them

1980s: Luther Campbell's "pay for play"

A long-time booster of Hurricanes Football, 2 Live Crew member and local philanthropist Luther Campbell was said to have been behind what was referred to as a "pay-for-play" system, which involved cash rewards for things such as touchdowns as well as big hits. His ties to the program were at one point so close that former Hurricanes coach Dennis Erickson used to occasionally call upon Campbell as an intermediary when he was having a problem with his players.
As far as the topic at hand, I wonder if BO ever sent the NCAA a letter?

In theory, Troy's eligibility with the NCAA was up after the last play of the Michigan game. He has graduated from OSU (and is in grad school). The BCS isn't controlled by the NCAA, so most of their rules don't apply to bowl eligibility and a teams status (i.e. Reggie Bush) Leinhart at USC was in the same boat. He had graduated prior to last fall and was in GS. He hung out with Nick and Jessica and Paris. Do you think he bought rounds for them? Do you think that he drove to the night clubs in his old '90 Toyota Cellica? NO. He more than likely has had a lot thrown his way that he didn't have to pay for. A lot more than Troy can ever claim to have received. When you are a start athlete in a big town, regardless of the sport, you get some free passes. There is nothing wrong with signing autographs. So long as you don't take money for the efforts.

What you don't know is if he has agreed to something that would pay him on January 9th for his efforts now. While ethically wrong, technically there is nothing illegal. Lots of players, and I have seen many underage hockey players and football players served drinks at bars in BG in plane view of other patrons. Some in front of the then Prosecuting Attorney for Wood County.

I think you are trying to make smoke where there is no fire. You are just pissed that Tressel is 5-1 against Michigan and you despise anything OSU. Go ahead and try to start a fire, but the NCAA and others will be pouring water on you before you can get a match out of the match box.
So basically what you're saying is that it's ok for O$U players to commit illegal acts as long as they're winning? Don't compare what a BG player is doing to a Buckeye, you're comparing apples and oranges. Do other underage kids get served at Ziggy's that aren't athletes? Yes. Do other kids sign autographs for money in the back of bars? No.

David Price is the guy to send an E-mail to if you have any information. I sent him an e-mail giving a link to this thread. I'm certain sending him an e-mail giving your personal accounts will do a lot more to help him out.

Can we dig up something that is relevant in any way to the kids at either program right now? Uncle Luke is great, and 2 Live Crew was in town in the past year, but what does that have to do with this program in the past 20 years? Nothing!
