Sooooooo. Two players are kicked off the team at the same time a new coach agrees to take the job.

Oh, it was totally Dan's decision on the dismissals....riiiiiiiiight.

Tim Buckley, former Ball State coach was on Crean's staff at Marquette. Buckley and Dakich were said to be close when both coached in the MAC. Won't be surprised to see all three together at IU next year.

I think your timeline is out of order. The events leading up to the two players dismissal happened last week before Crean was tabbed for the job. And in fact, the dismissals came to light in the paper on Tuesday morning. Crean was named coach late Tuesday afternoon. Dakich certainly could have been the sole party responsible for the dismissals.

And to clear up my stance on the situation, I would say the same thing about any INTERIM coach who did this after the season ended and the actual new full time coach was being recruited. My views aren't just because it is Dakich. An INTERIM coach needs to understand his place in the system and not overstep his duties. I think Dakich overstepped here.

If the new coach has issues with players and wants to clear them out to make the team over as he sees fit, that is all well and good. But the INTERIM coach shouldn't be hacking up the team before the new guy gets a chance to see what he has.

I am SURE the AD was very involved in the decision to let them go.

Of course he was involved. Warthog just can't see well through his Dakich-hating glasses ;)

They just blew out the deadwood before Crean was introduced so he could start with a clean slate which is the best thing for the program. So even if you believe Warthog's slanted view Dan's sole decision was in the best interest of the program anyway.

So the Dan Dakich era at IU is now officially over. I, for one, hope he never gets another head coaching gig. He's shown himself to be a Grade A jackass who likes to rip on BG now that he's gone. Oh we all loved to hear how much he loved the town and the school so much when he was here. Then as soon as he leaves he's ripping on the fans and anyone else he can think of.

Good riddance Dan. Wish you would've taken Greggy-Weggy with you.

"Dakich and Ray McCallum, promoted to assistant head coach after Sampson's resignation, were already cleaning out their offices Tuesday night. Dakich is unsure where he will be next season even though the university has offered to keep him at Indiana in some capacity next year"

From the AP story about Crean being introduced as IU new coach.

Bobby Knight is going to be the head coach. Dakich might get the head assistant job though.

The fact that you just lumped Gregg Brandon in with Dan Dakich is downright scary. I know you hate GB, but he's got about three years worth of 3-9 seasons of catching up to do to reach DD's level.

hammb,

Why lump Coach B in with Dakich? That's BS.

I have to agree with 24 and Freak, I wouldn't lump GB in with DD just yet. DD destroyed BG basketball and GB has just kept BG football from completely falling into the abyss.

I still think Brandon's a pretty lousy coach, and remember that when Dan left for WVU you'd be making a pretty big stretch to compare him with Gary Blackney.

I don't think Brandon will ever take the program to the same level as Dan took the hoops program, but I still don't like him as a head coach. Dan had the unique combination of being a terrible coach and being a guy that nobody could stand to play for. Brandon's players at least seem to like him, that'll prevent him from ever going the Dan Dakich route.

Either way I'm quite glad to see Dan gone.
