yeah, but the crack staff of accountants budgeted that scholarship loss, so it's not really a loss.

seriously, though, this is not a good showing for the mac. i very much agree with the mtsu coach's words.

I would imagine it's for next year's recruiting class.

That said, I would NOT want to be the person who has to tell Raymond Williams he won't be getting a scholarship next year.

This is how it all affects UT:

OK, we had 77 players under scholarship this past fall so the loss of 6 scholarships would be 79 players which we fall under. So no loss there. Now, the other part of the penalty not mentioned anywhere is that we lose 3 scholarships available for recruits out of the maximum of 25. So that means we have 22 available and we signed 23 guys.

So if all 23 players show up in August, one player will have to be told that he is getting greyshirted. He can still play this fall as a walk-on, and then his scholarship would start in January of 2007 and he would count against the 2007 recruiting class.

So, we are not affected by this too much. Sure, it's bad publicity and one kid will have to be greyshirted but that is it. The loss of 6 scholarships and 3 scholarships for recruits out of the max of 25 sounds a lot worse than the effect it will actually have on us.

So a guy is trying to decide whether to go to BG or UT. He sees this come out. Where do you think he's going to sign? The school which may or may not have a spot for you because of an NCAA infraction?

This is a lot worse for UT than they'd like to admit. It's quite a blackeye to the school and the coach.

RF should be working in politics (maybe he is), because he can spin about anything to make it sound good to a bunch of people that don't have a clue.
Doesn't work here!! [-X

I bet that will impress the Big East!!

Now now Factman. Don't get too big for your britches. After all, you were wrong.

You said they would lose three scholarships and they ended up losing six.

Make no mistake, this is bad publicity and could very well effect recruiting and so forth. I mentioned that on the UT board, but probably didn't here.

However, I think you may be hoping that it effects UT more than it will.

As for the Big East......do you think they will care? If UT goes to the Big East we become a BCS school and get special clauses (like Cincinnati in basketball and many other BCS schools in different sports) to keep us from losing any scholarships. ;-)

By the way, I am not trying to spin anything to hide anything from people that you say "don't have a clue."

I would also suggest changing your screen name if you really want anyone to take you seriously. Sure, some BG fans will take you serious, but even some BG fans won't with a screen name like factman. That's just calling for people to think you are full of yourself and not take you seriously.

I bet there will be some kids that will say "I'm going to BG because of this" and there will be kids that won't let this effect their decision at all. Especially if they feel confident enough that they won't be affected by a loss of scholarships.

You can't win them all, but BG also can't take more than 25 players in a recruiting class (unless of course you have greyshirts and so forth that don't count against that class) and usually UT and BG are only in direct competition for a couple of recruits in a given season and some of those don't even go to either school.

Don't forget, 5 of 13 MAC schools were effected by the new APR (I included Temple of course).
