This is getting so depressing. Being able to play college sports should be a privilege, not a right. There are so many good kids out there that stay out of trouble - give them the spots that open up when these others fumble away their opportunities.

I guess the reason why I bring this up is because of all the glory stories I've heard about OSU. The stories of how they have this long tradition of not tolerating any funny business, and a general mentality that OSU is the moral compass of Division I-A.

I'm of the opinion that these days are over, and have been since before my time. The list is strikingly long of players who have had some sort of funny business, and have still had a place on their football team.

Most of all, I think that this is timely because the only place I have seen this news is a short blurb on ESPN's website. Meanwhile, there has been tons of news regarding UT's loss of 6 football scholarships. Not to mention the spiraling list of opinions about how the media attention is making academics suffer in the MAC.

When next season starts, UT won't be fielding a convicted felon. That should stand for something. Not to mention that they have not put up any fight to resist the suspension of the 6 scholarships. (I say that because at the start of bowl season in December, there was a report on ESPN saying that 41% of the teams in bowl games didn't meet academic standards; and yet there was not a single major conference school that has lost scholarships.)

IMO, it isn't the fact that players get in trouble at any particular school. It is whether or not that school delivers swift punishment to those who get into trouble. Boys will be boys, but they need to face consequences like men.

There's my soap box. I guess I should be on the lookout for MiamiBando to throw a rock at my head now.

also, just tp pick more nits, Toledo did not have any choice of whether or not to accept the APR punishment. The NCAA decided which schools they would apply the squad-size rule to. Toledo did nothing honorable by "accepting" scholarships. They were handed down without option.

lets not forget that this kicker was kicked off of the team last year, he has not MADE the team, he has been welcomed back to TRY OUT for the team. He is NOT a scholarship player and if he does not EARN his scholarship he will NOT be on the team. they have this guy and two other kickers trying out. they are not going to hold a walk on kicker who does not have a scholly.


This is a meaningless story right now. Why dont you wait until we see if he ACTUALLY MAKES THE TEAM before you throw a pissy fit.

I agree with you. That doesn't change the fact that Brandon and BG has given this kid a chance to get on the team. NCAA wise i don't think coaches and schools should even get the option to get athletes with drug/criminal (Felony type stuff, I think misdameanor violations could slide) records. If you can't get a college loan with a drug conviction then why should someone else get a free ride to play a game.
