football stadiums...some nicer than a few MAC schools

When you live in Oil City and they spend more money on football stadiums than the school system that's what you get...

Wow! I really hope the textbooks and staffing at those schools are that awesome. Oh wait I forgot where our priorities are for high school education in this country.

have you seen fawcett stadium in canton (rated the best high school stadium in the US by the sporting news) or paul brown tiger stadium massillon?

they both rival most any stadium in the mac. it should be noted, however, that fawcett, in addition to receving funding from the canton city schools, walsh university and malone college, receives some coin from the nfl.

btw i wouldn't be disappointed if texas seceded from the union.

Found this through a google search. All of these nice Texas HS football stadiums got me wondering about how they rank as a state compared to the rest of us. This site has all kinds of interesting stats for you to take a look at but some that I found most surprising are as follows:

Texas has been on the decline every year in average expenditure pure pupil ranking 40th in the U.S. at $7,142. (This is a lower sum than the previous two years

) The national average is a whopping $1600 apx. higher.

(According to the National Education Association, Texas was the only state in the nation to cut per pupil spending in fiscal year 2005.)

It just seems to me that with all these state of the art playing facilities we could be educating our youth a little better. Sorry about the vent, but this really got me going.

I watched Coldwater take home a divison championship there this past season. That is one heck of a stadium for sure!

It's all a part of what I call the Texas attitude of reproductive one-up-man-ship.

I've never seen a culture where keeping up the joneses is a life's goal! If one kid in school gets a Mercedes than their child needs to have a Mercedes, etc. The schools are just an extension to that philosophy.

Yeah, I've heard of the wonderous football stadiums these Texas high schools are builiding or have allready for their football teams. I've herard of stadiums that seat up to 60,000, really no joke.

And yet my wife says that Ohioians are more passionate about their football.

I once stated a difference between TX football and OH football thusly: Texans love football like it's their car; Ohioians love football like it was a member of their family.

I find there to be a lot of truth in that.

While Ohio has a few very nice stadiums, Texas has A LOT of them. But it helps that each school district down here has more than one school usually in the district, and each district has a lot of money to play with. I have seen some unbelievable stadiums down here, and I am amazed at some of them. We have a high school stadium right behind our college, and it is awesome. It cost a boatload of money to build, and they used it in Friday Night Lights. It wasn't shown that well though. They have a color instant replay scoreboard. It's crazy. And it's not only their football stadiums at some of these schools, it's their basketball stadiums also. I was recruiting over christmas, and the school district had three awesome gyms. I would take quite a few of these football stadiums over some of the college stadiums. But I truly believe that the only reason that high school football is bigger and considered better, is because they obviously have more kids to choose from, and they also can play all year around. The school with the stadium I was talking about has over 200 kids come out for spring and summer football practice. It's crazy. I think that the difference between our fanatacism with football, and Texas, is the fact that most of the people that live in Ohio grew up there, and those that live in Texas, a lot of them are transplanted here. Especially in the bigger cities and rural areas. It's hard for me to say that one is bigger than the other honestly.

Ok, so I actually looked at some of the stadiums in that thread. The Galena Park ISD stadium that I was talking about is in there. Everything in that stadium is nice, even the press box.
