Dakich Situation Here in Charleston

The College of Charleston fired head coach Tom Herrion (80-38, not a type-o they fired a guy for going 80-38 ) a couple weeks ago, pretty late and cruel if you ask me.

Then they targeted Buzz Peterson (ex Tenn coach) current coastal carolina coach.... but that leak wasn't endorsed.

The man they wanted was Greg Marshall who was an assistant at CofC under John Kresse- the guy their arena is named after. Marshall has been at Winthrop for 8 years and been to 6 NCAA tourneys in that time. He was passed over to replace Kresse in 2000 when they hired Herrion.

So they have a press conference here yesterday announcing Marshall as the coach. Paper says the white knight has come home, Kresse is shown crying and really excited to have one of his young ones come home. The love fest would have you believe this guy is the second coming.

It comes out this afternoon that Marshall has decided to remain at Winthrop, and the pooh hit the fan here in Chucktown. Pretty funny to watch it all unfold around me here.

I know it is only "mid major" and a lateral move from Winthrop to CofC, but entertaining at the least.

Nah, that's a Cremins situation down there.

I remember when Bobby Cremins took the USC job and then backed out to stay at Tech. At a banquet to honor Jimmy V. the ACC coaches each gave a speech and Rick Barnes (then the Clmeson head coach) asked the question: "What does USC stand for? U Seen Cremins?

true true and that is what a lot of people have brought up here, just didn't think too many azzers would appreciate the Cremins thing. We actually had Bobby on the radio here commenting on the situation, he is loosely considered a candidate to take the CofC job. We also had UNC Tarheel headcoach Roy Williams on our baseball broadcast, just by sheer luck as he came to our game as a guest of former AL prez and former UMinn and Kansas prez Gene Budig. . .

Crazy week- we've had George Will and Roy Williams on our baseball broadcast! Tomorrow night I get to do play by play. . . ,.!!!

In a very ironic twist of fate it appears that none other than Bobby Cremins will be named the next coach at CofC.

thats what I had heard too...as an ACC fan, glad you got him, I hated listening to him call the games on tv.
