Butler hoops

Post by TG1996 »

I made my first trip to Hinkle Fieldhouse last night and watched Butler beat Evansville. What an awesome place to watch a game! 8,500 or so people there, and the layout is just unique as hell, and the sound in the place is tremendous. Students were likely on break, too, though there was a decent bunch there (still probably 85% "townies"). I may have to find out when they play a rival or have a big game and check it out for the atmosphere.

(For those that aren't familiar, Hinkle is the gym where they play the final game(s?) in "Hoosiers", with the tape measures to the rim and what not.)

Despite the losing effort, the BG training in Steve Merfeld came out last night. You could hear him whistle and stomp to get players' attention from the top opposite corner of the gym! Later, Butler was up 10 or so, and UE got whistled for a touch foul, and I've never seen a sportcoat come off so fast. He paused for a minute, still steaming, like "What do I do with this now?" Before firing it at his chair. He was darn close to getting run a couple times shortly after that, and as the game ended, he walked out about six feet short of the lane and applauded the officials as they walked off the opposite side of the floor. Childish, sure, but amusing as hell.
"I don't believe I can name a coach, anywhere, anytime, anyhow, who did it better than Doyt Perry."
