Lake Erie College

Post by Rightupinthere »

It's a delightful time for me, friends. I get another college football program to follow.

Lake Erie College - where I am enrolled in their excellent MBA program. The only down side is that I"m going to have to like the color green.

It's a club sport this year and next year they will play NCAA Div II.

Hurray for me and GO STORM!

Then there is plenty of time to find out how much NCAA eligibility you have for next year's roster. Remember, RUIP, beware grocery store managers with wads of cash wanting to help the team do well, but maybe just not TOO well.

There was a great article about their first game in the PD the other day (Sunday, maybe?). It is pretty neat to witness the birth of a college football program. You just don't see that all that often. Hopefully the storm catches on and brings some fame to LEC.

Welcome to the Div. II ranks. Maybe we can get the GVSU Lakers to play the Storm someday in the future.

Perhaps, although I shudder at the pasting GVSU would put on such a young program. Lake Erie is recruiting some pretty good young talent in and around NE Ohio so it is possible they will mature quickly. Their first game was a 56-0 pasting of the Canadian All Star team. Not a great win, but for only being the first game ever, not bad.

I'm unsure of what LEC's conference will be. I'm betting on Great Lakes Football Conference. The membership is pretty thin (6 schools) and it's only football. This would enable LEC to maintain DivIII status for the remainder of their programs - at least in the short term.

The fledgling Great Lakes Football Conference would be a good fit for them, especially since Tiffin is leaving the GLFC for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in 2008. So at least Tiffin will be playing GVSU in the coming years.

I hadn't heard that. That gives the conference 14 members! That's a load. Are they going to lose any?

Too bad that Tiffin is moving. It would have made a good rivalry. Central State may be a good instate option.

Mercyhurst College and Gannon University are joining up with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) the year Tiffin joins the GLIAC. The PSAC makes more sense for those two schools on a geographic basis and should save them quite a bit on travel. The GLIAC will have 12 members after Tiffin joins the conference.

That seems to be a great move for all involved. The GLIAC looks like it will be the powerhouse conference of Div II football.

By the way, the Storm beat the Central Canadian all stars 56-0 in their first game ever.

This is a good Omen. LEC was established in 1856.
