I have to chuckle at the celebrations.
Am I the only one who finds it funny that fans of the team down south are so happy to see Michigan lose to App St?
That is not good for the team down south. They have to realize that their schedule is rather weak this year.
-I don't think that Penn St. will be all they are cracked up to be when they are not playing ESPN's 119th ranked FIU.
-Minnesota just lost to us.
-Michigan St has a nasty habit of starting strong, but collapsing by week 6.
-Their non-conference schedule is a joke.
-They don't play Iowa.
Basically, their schedule comes down to Wisconsin and Michigan. I'm not convinced Wisconsin is worth their ranking yet. That means, if last Saturday was a preview of Michigan's season, it could mean really bad things for the team down south's strength of schedule.
To be honest, it could potentially be so bad that they could go undefeated and still be left out of the championship game.
I won't explore the hypothetical at this juncture, but we've seen seasons unfold in ways that could make this scenario possible.
I just find it amusing how much celebrating that is going on at Michigan's expense. Don't they realize that the only team that they should want to beat Michigan is themselves? Especially this year. They should want Michigan to be ranked in the top 5 when they play them. That way, they would have a chance to finish the season with a big win, not an expected win against a push-over who got beat by a double A team.
The people who should be celebrating are the people who do not like either of those two teams (i.e. Myself). Even though I would have preferred to see the team down south fall to YSU as well, or at least instead, I celebrate because I know it doesn't help their schedule strength.
Just wondering if I'm the only one on this wavelength.

I agree, no one that is a fan of a Big Ten school should be happy about this. IMO Saturday was the darkest day in the history of B10 football. I don't care what OSU, Wisky, MSU, or any of the others did, the team most considered the favorite in your league, and considered the 5th best in the land, dropped the biggest egg ever. All this does is help others prove that the B10 one of the best conferences out there. Whenever someone tries to say the B10 is the best conference everyone will point to UF/OSU and now UM/App State

I've actually never really been one to buy into the "hoping for the betterment of the conference" bit. Sure, especially in the likes of the MAC, blowout losses damage the rep a little bit, but if UT's going to lose to Kansas and Minnesota (
) by 60 points in back to back weeks, I'm not going to shed a tear. Hell, they could lose to a high school team and I wouldn't feel bad about it.
Unfortunately, that will never happen, because Vegas doesn't lay lines on games with HS teams, so there's no incentive for UT to play.

I don't care if Toledo loses. I root for them when they aren't playing BG, but I don't actually care...especially not this year.
Thing is, if we were trying to get into a decent bowl game, it might be different. It would definitely be different if we were a team that was in contention for the national title.
Wouldn't you be pissed off if the MAC was a BCS conference and BG went undefeated, but got passed up because Toledo couldn't get their act together?
I'm just saying....our situation is very different from theirs.

Personally I always root for the other MAC teams to win their OOC games. Specifically against BCS teams and 1AA teams. I don't want us to lose any games to 1AA teams because it's embarrassing, and I think those wins over BCS conferences always help the conference look at least a little better.
I definitely find it funny for how much the OSU fans are gloating. That is a huge black eye on the entire Big 10, not just UM. It'd be different if they were a ho-hum program, but like you said this was the team that everyone expected to win the Big 10. If they go on to win the Big 10 that will make it that much more embarrassing.

Interesting point Hammb. It is still entirely possible that Michigan could go on to win the Big 10.hammb wrote:I definitely find it funny for how much the OSU fans are gloating. Right now it may seem absurd, but we've seen Toledo get their butt kicked out of conference by teams just as pathetic as App St. And by getting their butt kicked, I mean 56-7 (or something rediculous like that). Then, they turn around and win the MAC.
I look at it this way: I really don't think that we would beat Minnesota a second time. I really don't think that Minnesota game-planned like they should have against us. In all fairness, they probably didn't have much in the way of footage for that purpose.
Michigan had the same disadvantage. I know, Carr talked up App St for 2 weeks before they played, but it is hard to convince a group of guys predicted to win the big ten (and possibly a national title) that they could lose to a double A school. I seriously doubt it would happen a second time.
Winning the Big 10 is not out of the question. And if they do, it will brand the Big 10 as the BCS conference that was once won by a team that lost to a double A school in the same season.............and I'm not sure, but that seems like it should be a record.
Having said that, Go Falcons!

I was listening to WKNR last night on the way home when some OSU fan called that choch nugget, Munch, and started laughing and ripping UM for the loss. This guy said "Serves them right for the arrogant attitude they have in AA. They think they can do no wrong!!". I tried like heck to get thru. WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK OSU FANS ARE LIKE???? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
All these OSU fans better be careful because it WILL happen to the Buck$ someday....maybe not this weekend with Akron or next year...but someday it will happen. Paybacks are a bitch.

I wouldn't hold my breath. 86 years and waiting since the last Ohio team beat them and I don't know if we'll see what happened last weekend ever again with a 1-AA beating a top 5 team. The only 1-AA team OSU will ever play is YSU and they aren't ever going beat them.Falconfreak90 wrote:I was listening to WKNR last night on the way home when some OSU fan called that choch nugget, Munch, and started laughing and ripping UM for the loss.
